Charged particle radiotherapy at the Hyogo Ion Beam Medical Center: Characteristics,technology and clinical results

The Hyogo Ion Beam Medical Center was constructed in 2001 as the world’s first charged particle radiotherapy center where both proton and carbon-ion radiotherapy can be performed. From April 2001 to February 2007, more than 1,400 patients with a variety of cancers were treated. Most of the tumors except for prostate cancer were considered hard to cure with standard treatments such as surgery or conventional x-ray radiotherapy. The clinical results obtained so far are very encouraging, mainly due to the excellent dose localization to the tumor and strong cell killing effects of protons and carbon-ions. The good indications are localized tumors including skull base tumors, head and neck tumors, cancers of the lung, the liver, and the prostate, and bone and soft tissue sarcomas. Charged particle radiotherapy will significantly improve the quality of life of cancer patients and promote their speedy return to normal lives or work if it is used for early stage cancer.     

The fluorescence of polyamidoamine dendrimers peripherally modified with 1,8-naphthalimide groups: Effect of the rare earth ions and protons

We report the absorption spectra, fluorescent spectra and photophysical properties of G 2.0 polyamidoamine dendrimers with peripheral 1,8-naphthalimide groups with the hydrogen ions, the rare earth ions (Er³⁺, Tb³⁺, Nb³⁺, Eu³⁺, Yb³⁺ and Gd³⁺) and the mixture of the rare earth metal and hydrogen ions. The presence of the rare earth ions and hydrogen ions was found to enhance the fluorescence owing to the coordination between the rare earth metal or hydrogen ions and internal amido groups of polyamidoamine (PAMAM) from dendrimer. The result from the 3D isogram of the fluorescence spectra for the dendrimers with peripheral 1,8-naphthalimide groups show that it was obtained for the different emission fluorescence intensity and scope by varying the excitation wavelength and the different rare earth ions as well as its concentration. The results obtained reveal that the capacities of these systems might have acted as a sensitive label agent of the rare earth cations and protons.

盐酸四环素中可交换氢和氢键的核磁共振波谱研究

四环素类抗生素是一类广谱抗生素,对革兰氏阳性菌、革兰氏阴性菌、支原体、衣原体和立克次体感染均具有抗菌活性.本文运用一维（1D）和二维（2D）核磁共振（NMR）技术对盐酸四环素中可交换氢和氢键进行研究,并将研究结果与RNA和蛋白质结合的四环素以及游离药物的晶体结构进行比较,进一步讨论了药物中的氢键构架与药物活性的相关性.最后对盐酸四环素及其同系物的¹H和¹³C NMR信号进行了全归属和分析,并对文献归属结果进行了细微校正.这些结果有助于进一步探索该类药物在更复杂的生物或环境系统中的构效关系.     

Nucleophilic Arylation of N,O‐Ketene Acetals with Triaryl Aluminum Reagents: Access to α‐Aryl Amides through an Umpolung Process

A novel approach for the umpolung α‐arylation of amides is presented. By the nucleophilic phenylation of O‐silyl N,O‐ketene acetals, generated in situ from N‐alkoxy amides, a phenyl group can be introduced onto the α‐carbon atom of amides through N−O bond cleavage in a two‐step, one‐pot process. The asymmetric synthesis of α‐aryl amides through the diastereoselective arylation of a chiral N,O‐ketene acetal is also described.
