The properties of a 2D quantum ring under rotating and external magnetic field effects are investigated. The Landau levels and their inertial effects on them are initially analyzed. Among the results obtained, it is emphasized that the rotation lifted the degeneracy of Landau levels. The second part deals with the electronic confinement in a 2D ring modeled by a hard wall potential. The eigenstates are described by Landau states as long as they are not too close to the ring edges. On the other hand, near the ring edges, the energies increase monotonically. These states are known as edge states. Edge states have a significant role in the physical properties of the ring. Thus, the Fermi energy and magnetization are analyzed. In the specific case of magnetization, two approaches are considered. In the first approach, an analytical result for magnetization is obtained but without considering rotation. Numerical results show the de Haas-Van Alphen (dHvA) oscillations. In the second approach, rotating effects are considered. In addition to the dHvA oscillations, the Aharonov–Bohm-type (AB) oscillations are verified, which are associated with the presence of edge states. The effects of rotation on the results are discussed and it is found that rotation is responsible for inducing AB oscillations. 相似文献

The control of the Aharonov–Bohm effect on a AlGaAs/GaAs ring structure is studied by employing two in-plane-gates. By applying a gate voltage to one of the gates, a change of the oscillation pattern due to the additional potential induced in one branch of the ring is observed. The change of the oscillation frequency as well as the phase is attributed to the multi-channel transport. In case of a symmetric biasing, where both gates are biased simultaneously, a larger voltage is required to change the oscillation pattern than for the case when only one gate is used. This effect is explained by a partial compensation of the phase difference between both branches of the ring. 相似文献

We study theoretically quantized states of the neutral and positively charged exciton complexes confined within a circular narrow ring in the presence of the magnetic field applied along the symmetry axis. We show that in the structural adiabatic limit, when the width of the pattern of the particles pathways within the ring is much smaller than its radius, the wave equations for both complexes are separable and their exact solutions can be found in a form of the Fourier series of one and two variables, respectively. We present results of calculation of the lower energies of complexes as functions of the ring's radius and the magnetic field strength for different values of the electron-to-hole mass ratio. We found that in the molecular adiabatic limit, when this ratio tends to zero and the model describes the corresponding donor complexes, the physical interpretation of the quantum-size effect and the oscillations of energy levels in threading magnetic field revealed for the excitons spectra becomes more transparent. 相似文献

Leslie Foldy’s diminutive stature and modest demeanor gave little clue to the powerful intellect responsible for several significant
advances in theoretical physics.Two were particularly important. His 1945 theory of the multiple scattering of waves laid
out the fundamentals that most modern theories have followed (and sometimes rediscovered), while his work with Siegfried Wouthuysen
on the nonrelativistic limit of the Dirac equation opened the way to a wealth of valuable insights. In this article we recall
some of the milestones along Foldy’s path through a life in physics.
Some of the anecdotes we report here were related to one of the authors (PLT) just before an event in 2000 celebrating Foldy’s
80th birthday, while others were told to us over the course of the nearly forty years during which we were colleagues. Still
others were uncovered during the course of WJF’s research for his book, Physics at a Research University: Case Western Reserve 1830–1990 (Cleveland: Case Western Reserve University, 2006). Other details were provided by Foldy’s widow, Roma.

Sandwiched structures (a-SiNx/a-Si/a-SiNx) have been fabricated by the plasma enhanced chemical vapour deposition technique. A Si nanocrystal (nc-Si) layer was formed by crystallization of an a-Si layer according to the constrained crystallization principle after quasi-static thermal annealing at 1100℃ for 30 min. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and Raman scattering spectroscopy clearly demonstrated that nc-Si grains were formed in the as-deposited a-Si layer after annealing. The density of nc-Si grains is about 1011cm-2 as shown by TEM photographs. Using capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements we investigated the electrical characteristics of the sandwiched structures. The charge storage phenomenon of the nc-Si layer was observed from the shift of flat-band voltage (VFB) in C-V curves at a high frequency (1 MHz). We estimated the density of nc-Si grains to be about 1011cm-2 from the shift value of VFB, which is in agreement with the result of TEM photographs. At the same time, we found that the shift of VFB increased with the increase of the applied constant dc voltage or the thickness of the nc-Si layer. 相似文献
