Grafting of polystyrene with narrowly dispersed polymer microspheres through surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) was investigated. Polydivinylbenzene (PDVB) microspheres were prepared by dispersion polymerization with poly(N-vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP) as stabilizer. The surfaces of PDVB microspheres were chloromethylated by chloromethyl methyl ether in the presence of zinc chloride as catalyst to form chloromethylbenzene initiating core sites for subsequent ATRP grafting of styrene using CuCl/bpy as catalytic system. Polystyrene was found to be grafted not only from the particle surfaces but also from within a thin shell layer, resulting in the formation of particles size increased from 2.38-2.58μm, which can further grow to 2.93μm during secondary grafting polymerization of styrene. This demonstrates that grafting polymerization proceeds through a typical ATRP procedure with living nature. A novel hyperbranched polyisophthalate containing pendant carbazolyl and azobenzene groups at the terminals was synthesized, and its photorefractivity has also been evaluated by the effective electro-optic (EO) coefficient, two-beam couple (TBC) coefficient, diffraction efficiency and photorefractive (PR) response time. This PR polymer has a low glass transition temperature of 21 °C without any extra plasticizer added, which provides a necessary free volume for EO chromophore reorientation during the recording process at room temperature. The obtained PR film exhibited an effective EO coefficient of 30 pm V−1, a TBC coefficient of 59 cm−1, a diffraction efficiency of 17%, and a modulation index of 1.67 × 10−3 at the wavelength of 632.8 nm with an applied electric field of 80 V μm−1 at room temperature. The TBC coefficient was found to be beam-intensity dependent, compared with what is found in inorganic crystals. Moreover, a fast PR response time of 10 ms was deduced at an erasing beam intensity of 1.0 W cm−2. 相似文献

The development and characterization of a magnetic bead (MB)-quantum dot (QD) nanoparticles based assay capable of quantifying pathogenic bacteria is presented here. The MB-QD assay operates by having a capturing probe DNA selectively linked to the signaling probe DNA via the target genomic DNA (gDNA) during DNA hybridization. The signaling probe DNA is labeled with fluorescent QD565 which serves as a reporter. The capturing probe DNA is conjugated simultaneously to a MB and another QD655, which serve as a carrier and an internal standard, respectively. Successfully captured target gDNA is separated using a magnetic field and is quantified via a spectrofluorometer. The use of QDs (i.e., QD565/QD655) as both a fluorescence label and an internal standard increased the sensitivity of the assay. The passivation effect and the molar ratio between QD and DNA were optimized. The MB-QD assay demonstrated a detection limit of 890 zeptomolar (i.e., 10−21 mol L−1) concentration for the linear single stranded DNA (ssDNA). It also demonstrated a detection limit of 87 gene copies for double stranded DNA (dsDNA) eaeA gene extracted from pure Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 culture. Its corresponding dynamic range, sensitivity, and selectivity were also presented.
