We consider the numerical pricing of American options under Heston’s stochastic volatility model. The price is given by a
linear complementarity problem with a two-dimensional parabolic partial differential operator. We propose operator splitting
methods for performing time stepping after a finite difference space discretization. The idea is to decouple the treatment
of the early exercise constraint and the solution of the system of linear equations into separate fractional time steps. With
this approach an efficient numerical method can be chosen for solving the system of linear equations in the first fractional
step before making a simple update to satisfy the early exercise constraint. Our analysis suggests that the Crank–Nicolson
method and the operator splitting method based on it have the same asymptotic order of accuracy. The numerical experiments
show that the operator splitting methods have comparable discretization errors. They also demonstrate the efficiency of the
operator splitting methods when a multigrid method is used for solving the systems of linear equations. 相似文献

Damage of a linearly-responding material that can completely disintegrate is addressed at small strains. Using time-varying
Dirichlet boundary conditions we set up a rateindependent evolution problem in multidimensional situations. The stored energy
involves the gradient of the damage variable. This variable as well as the stress and energies are shown to be well defined
even under complete damage, in contrast to displacement and strain. Existence of an energetic solution is proved, in particular,
by detailed investigating the Γ-limit of the stored energy and its dependence on boundary conditions. Eventually, the theory
is illustrated on a one-dimensional example.

Is it possible to symbolically express and analyse an individual-based model of disease spread, including realistic population dynamics? This problem is
addressed through the use of process algebra and a novel method for transforming process algebra into Mean Field Equations.
A number of stochastic models of population growth are presented, exploring different representations based on alternative
views of individual behaviour. The overall population dynamics in terms of mean field equations are derived using a formal
and rigorous rewriting based method. These equations are easily compared with the traditionally used deterministic Ordinary
Differential Equation models and allow evaluation of those ODE models, challenging their assumptions about system dynamics.
The utility of our approach for epidemiology is confirmed by constructing a model combining population growth with disease
spread and fitting it to data on HIV in the UK population.
