Linear dependence of stationary distributions in ergodic Markov decision processes

In ergodic MDPs we consider stationary distributions of policies that coincide in all but n states, in which one of two possible actions is chosen. We give conditions and formulas for linear dependence of the stationary distributions of n+2 such policies, and show some results about combinations and mixtures of policies.     

Random orderings of the integers and card shuffling

In this paper we study random orderings of the integers with a certain invariance property. We describe all such orders in a simple way. We define and represent random shuffles of a countable set of labels and then give an interpretation of these orders in terms of a class of generalized riffle shuffles.     

The first <Emphasis Type="Italic">L</Emphasis><Superscript><Emphasis Type="Italic">p</Emphasis></Superscript>-cohomology of some groups with one end

Let p be a real number greater than one. In this paper we study the vanishing and nonvanishing of the first L ^p -cohomology space of some groups that have one end. We also make a connection between the first L ^p -cohomolgy space and the Floyd boundary of the Cayley graph of a group. We apply the result about Floyd boundaries to show that there exists a real number p such that the first L ^p -cohomology space of a nonelementary hyperbolic group does not vanish. On the Log-Laplace Equation for Nonlocal Operators Generating Sub-Markovian Semigroups

We consider the semilinear Cauchy problem for a class of pseudo-differential operators generating sub-Markovian semigroups. Solutions of such problems with negative definite nonlinearity play an important role in constructing branching measure-valued processes. We establish local existence and uniqueness of solutions in the context of the Dirichlet space associated to the problem. Comparison and global properties of solutions are also studied. Anomalous PL brightening caused by partial Auger recombination of a (D, X) complex during an impact ionization avalanche in n-GaAs

Partial Auger recombination of the (D⁰, X) bound-exciton in n-GaAs at 4.2 K during an impact ionization avalanche under an applied pulse voltage has been investigated. The bright photoluminescence (PL)-pattern observed by applying the pulse voltage, characterizes well the formation of a current density filament. The observation of the bright PL spectra inside the current density filament gives a quite new result concerning the partial Auger recombination process of the (D⁰, X) complex, leaving the neutral donor in the excited states.     

On the uniqueness of minimizing harmonic maps to a closed hemisphere

We study the uniqueness of minimizing harmonic maps to a closed hemisphere. We are able to describe the boundary data for which there are more than one minimizer, and to describe in these cases the corresponding set of minimizers. 111In–L–LDL and 153Gd–L–LDL as radiotracers for detection of AR4‐2J rat pancreatic tumors

Pancreatic cancer has an extremely poor prognosis, due, in part, to lack of methods for early diagnosis. The present study was designed to evaluate the potential of labeling low‐density lipoprotein (LDL) with a radionuclide using a lipid chelating agent, bis(stearylamide) of diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid (L), to detect pancreatic tumors by gamma‐scintigraphy. Previous studies indicated that the difficulty of visualization of pancreatic tumors was due to their poor vascularization. This study compares the ability of two radiotracers, ¹¹¹In–L–LDL and ¹⁵³Gd–L–LDL to target highly vascularized rat pancreatic tumors (AR4‐2J) implanted in nude mice. Biodistribution studies showed that the tumor uptake of ¹¹¹In–L–LDL and ¹⁵³Gd–L–LDL tracers was twofold and fivefold higher respectively than with the controls (¹¹¹In citrate and ¹⁵³Gd citrate respectively). These tracers would thus be suitable for scintigraphic imaging. We show here that LDL could be employed as a delivery system for tracers such as ¹¹¹In or ¹⁵³Gd when these two radionuclides are complexed by a lipid‐chelating anchor, and that ¹¹¹In–L–LDL and ¹⁵³Gd–L–LDL enabled better visualization of the pancreatic tumor tissues, with a better result with ¹⁵³Gd–L–LDL. On W-solvability for special vectorial Hamilton-Jacobi systems

We study the solvability of special vectorial Hamilton-Jacobi systems of the form F(Du(x))=0 in a Sobolev space. In this paper we establish the general existence theorems for certain Dirichlet problems using suitable approximation schemes called W^1,p-reduction principles that generalize the similar reduction principle for Lipschitz solutions. Our approach, to a large extent, unifies the existing methods for the existence results of the special Hamilton-Jacobi systems under study. The method relies on a new Baire's category argument concerning the residual continuity of a Baire-one function. Some sufficient conditions for W^1,p-reduction are also given along with certain generalization of some known results and a specific application to the boundary value problem for special weakly quasiregular mappings.
