Call a sequence in a metric space cofinally Cauchy if for each positive ε there exists a cofinal (rather than residual) set of indices whose corresponding terms are ε-close. We give a number of new characterizations of metric spaces for which each cofinally Cauchy sequence has a cluster point. For example, a space has such a metric if and only each continuous function defined on it is uniformly locally bounded. A number of results exploit a measure of local compactness functional that we introduce. We conclude with a short proof of Romaguera's Theorem: a metrizable space admits such a metric if and only if its set of points having a compact neighborhood has compact complement.  相似文献

In this paper we study advantages of numerical integration by quasi-consistent Nordsieck formulas. All quasi-consistent numerical methods possess at least one important property for practical use, which has not attracted attention yet, i.e. the global error of a quasi-consistent method has the same order as its local error. This means that the usual local error control will produce a numerical solution for the prescribed accuracy requirement if the principal term of the local error dominates strongly over remaining terms. In other words, the global error control can be as cheap as the local error control in the methods under discussion.  相似文献

Amongst other results, we perform a ‘contactization’ method to construct, in every odd dimension, many contact Lie groups with a discrete center, unlike the usual (classical) contactization which only produces Lie groups with a non-discrete center. We discuss some applications and consequences of such a construction, construct several examples and derive some properties. We give classification results in low dimensions. A complete list is supplied in dimension 5. In any odd dimension greater than 5, there are infinitely many locally non-isomorphic solvable contact Lie groups. We also characterize solvable contact Lie algebras whose derived ideal has codimension one. For simplicity, most of the results are given in the Lie algebra version.  相似文献

It is well known that the congruence lattice ConA of an algebra A is uniquely determined by the unary polynomial operations of A (see e.g. [K. Denecke, S.L. Wismath, Universal Algebra and Applications in Theoretical Computer Science, Chapman & Hall, CRC Press, Boca Raton, London, New York, Washington DC, 2002 [2]]). Let A be a finite algebra with |A|=n. If Imf=A or |Imf|=1 for every unary polynomial operation f of A, then A is called a permutation algebra. Permutation algebras play an important role in tame congruence theory [D. Hobby, R. McKenzie, The structure of finite algebras, Contemporary Mathematics, vol. 76, Providence, Rhode Island, 1988 [3]]. If f:AA is not a permutation then AImf and there is a least natural number λ(f) with Imfλ(f)=Imfλ(f)+1. We consider unary operations with λ(f)=n-1 for n?2 and λ(f)=n-2 for n?3 and look for equivalence relations on A which are invariant with respect to such unary operations. As application we show that every finite group which has a unary polynomial operation with one of these properties is simple or has only normal subgroups of index 2.  相似文献

This paper presents some new results on numerical stability for multivariate fast Fourier transform of nonequispaced data (NFFT). In contrast to fast Fourier transform (of equispaced data), the NFFT is an approximate algorithm. In a worst case study, we show that both approximation error and roundoff error have a strong influence on the numerical stability of NFFT. Numerical tests confirm the theoretical estimates of numerical stability.  相似文献

A direct combinatorial proof is given to a generalization of the fact that the largest modulusN of a disjoint covering system appears at leastp times in the system, wherep is the smallest prime dividingN. The method is based on geometric properties of lattice parallelotopes. Generalized Robertson-Walker (GRW) spaces constitute a quite important family in Lorentzian geometry, and it is an interesting question to know whether a Lorentzian manifold can be decomposed in such a way. It is well known that the existence of a suitable vector field guaranties the local decomposition of the manifold. In this paper, we give conditions on the curvature which ensure a global decomposition and apply them to several situations where local decomposition appears naturally. We also study the uniqueness question, obtaining that the de Sitter spaces are the only nontrivial complete Lorentzian manifolds with more than one GRW decomposition. Moreover, we show that the Friedmann Cosmological Models admit an unique GRW decomposition, even locally.  相似文献

In the article, we study the structure of Galois coverings of self-injective artin algebras with infinite cyclic Galois groups. In particular, we characterize all basic, connected, self-injective artin algebras having Galois coverings by the repetitive algebras of basic connected artin algebras and with the Galois groups generated by positive automorphisms of the repetitive algebras.  相似文献
