Isotope effects in the kinetics of simultaneous H and D thermal desorption from Pd

The kinetics of simultaneous hydrogen and deuterium thermal desorption from PdH_xD_y has been investigated. A novel experimental approach for the study of the transition state (TS) characteristics of the surface recombination reaction is proposed based on the analysis of the H and D partitioning into H₂, HD and D₂ molecules. It has been found that the hydrogen molecular isotopes distribution is determined by the energy differences of the corresponding TS of the atom-atom recombination reactions. On the other hand, the mechanisms and activation energies of the desorption process have been obtained. At 420 K, the desorption reaction changes from a surface recombination limiting mechanism during desorption from β-PdH_xD_y to a reaction limited by the rate of β to α phase transformation during the two phase coexistence. Surface recombination reaction becomes again rate limiting above 480 K, due to a change in the catalytic properties of the Pd surface. TS energies obtained from the kinetic analysis of the thermal desorption spectra are in good accordance with those obtained from the analysis of the H₂, HD and D₂ distributions. Anomalous TS energies have been observed for the H-D recombination reaction, which may be related to the heteronuclear character of this molecule.     

A polarised neutron study of magnetic moment density in Cu2MnAl

A polarised neutron study of the ferromagnetic Heusler alloy Cu₂Mn_0.863Al_1.057 has been made. It has been concluded that the magnetic moment density is primarily situated on the Mn ions. On assigning the Mn-moment value, the observed magnetic form factor is found to be in good agreement with the Mn²⁺ free ion form factor calculated by Watson and Freeman. A slight asphericity has been observed in the moment density. It is estimated that there are about 3% excess 3d-electrons in the Eg states compared to spherical distribution. There is evidence of a very small positive polarisation of the Cu atoms. No appreciable conduction electron polarisation is found.

On the implementation of Sμ U(2) action in the irreducible representations of twisted canonical commutation relations

The natural S U(2) action on the creation and annihilation operators satisfying twisted canonical commutation relations (TCCR) is investigated. It is shown that the Fock representation is the only covariant irreducible representation of TCCR.Partially supported by the program RP.1.10.     

Dirichlet norms,capacities and generalized isoperimetric inequalities for Markov operators

We define the notion of p-capacity for a reversible Markov operator on a general measure space and prove that uniform estimates for the ratio of capacity and measure are equivalent to certain imbedding theorems for the Orlicz and Dirichlet norms. As a corollary we get results on connections between embedding theorems and isoperimetric properties for general Markov operators and, particularly, a generalization of the Kesten theorem on the spectral radius of random walks on amenable groups for the case of arbitrary graphs with non-finitely supported transition probabilities.     

A non-linear version of Hunt-Lion's theorem from the point of view of T-accretivity

In the classical topological context, Dellacherie [10] has given a non-linear version of Hunt's theorem characterizing the proper kernels verifying the complete maximum principle as those closing a submarkovian resolvent. In this paper we study the relation between this non-linear version of Hunt's theorem and T-accretivity.     

Caratheodory interpolation kernels

Kernels over the unit disk for which a version of Carathéodory interpolation is true are characterized in a simple computationally verifiable manner.     

Toeplitz and Hankel type operators on the upper half-plane

An orthogonal decomposition of admissible wavelets is constructed via the Laguerre polynomials, it turns to give a complete decomposition of the space of square integrable functions on the upper half-plane with the measurey dxdy. The first subspace is just the weighted Bergman (or Dzhrbashyan) space. Three types of Ha-plitz operators are defined, they are the generalization of classical Toeplitz, small and big Hankel operators respectively. Their boundedness, compactness and Schatten-von Neumann properties are studied.Research was supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.     

Domination of uniformly continuous semigroups

We prove that a bounded operator on a Banach lattice, satisfying a growth condition, is regular. Also, we prove that the generator of a C ₀-semigroup on such a lattice for which such an operator exists is bounded.     

Inégalités de Gagliardo-Nirenberg pour les semi-groupes d'opérateurs et applications

One shows the equivalence between an abstract form of a Gagliardo-Nirenberg inequality and an estimate of the decay of the L ¹–L norm of a semigroup of operators. This equivalence, contrary to the one with the classical Sobolev inequalities, allows the treatment of situations where the decay is exponential. Related results and applications are given.
