The σ<Emphasis Type="Italic">g</Emphasis>-Drazin Inverse and the Generalized Mbekhta Decomposition

In this paper we define and study an extension of the g-Drazin for elements of a Banach algebra and for bounded linear operators based on an isolated spectral set rather than on an isolated spectral point. We investigate salient properties of the new inverse and its continuity, and illustrate its usefulness with an application to differential equations. Generalized Mbekhta subspaces are introduced and the corresponding extended Mbekhta decomposition gives a characterization of circularly isolated spectral sets.     

Kreĭn–Saakyan and Trace Formulas for a Pair of Canonical Differential Operators

An analog of the Kreĭn–Saakyan formula is derived for any pair of relatively prime self-adjoint extensions of a minimal symmetric canonical differential operator. Gas solubility of carbon dioxide in poly(lactic acid) at high pressures: Thermal treatment effect

The sorption of carbon dioxide in glassy Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) films was studied by quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) at high pressures. Two thermal treatments, melted and quenched, were performed in PLA with two different L:D contents, 80:20 and 98:2, films and compared with a third thermal protocol, annealed, and used in a previous work. The results obtained show that for pressures higher than 2 MPa, the carbon dioxide solubility is larger in PLA 80:20 than in PLA 98:2, indicating that the L:D plays a dominant role on this property. The thermal treatments only affect the gas solubility in PLA 98:2. Sorption isotherms at temperatures 303, 313, and 323 K, below the glass transition temperature of the polymer, and pressures up to 5 MPa were measured and analyzed with three different models, the dual‐mode sorption model, the Flory–Huggins equation, and a modified dual‐mode sorption model where the Henry's law term was substituted by the Flory–Huggins equation. This last model performs especially well for CO₂ in PLA 80:20, due to the convex upward curvature of the solubility isotherms for that system. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Geometric and Combinatorial Realizations of Crystal Graphs

For irreducible integrable highest weight modules of the finite and affine Lie algebras of type A and D, we define an isomorphism between the geometric realization of the crystal graphs in terms of irreducible components of Nakajima quiver varieties and the combinatorial realizations in terms of Young tableaux and Young walls. For type A_n⁽¹⁾, we extend the Young wall construction to arbitrary level, describing a combinatorial realization of the crystals in terms of new objects which we call Young pyramids. Presented by P. Grothendieck groups of unbounded complexes of finitely generated modules

Let Λ be a left Artinian ring, D⁺(mod Λ) (resp., D⁻(mod Λ), D(mod Λ)) the derived category of bounded below complexes (resp., bounded above complexes, unbounded complexes) of finitely generated left Λ-modules. We show that the Grothendieck groups K₀(D⁺(mod Λ)), K₀(D⁻(mod Λ)) and K₀(D(mod Λ)) are trivial. Received: 7 April 2005     

A Fubini theorem

Let I₀ be the σ-ideal of subsets of a Polish group generated by Borel sets which have perfectly many pairwise disjoint translates. We prove that a Fubini-type theorem holds between I₀ and the σ-ideals of Haar measure zero sets and of meager sets. We use this result to give a simple proof of a generalization of a theorem of Balcerzak-Ros?anowski-Shelah stating that I₀ on N² strongly violates the countable chain condition.     

The Riesz decomposition of finely superharmonic functions

This paper answers a question of Fuglede about minimal positive harmonic functions associated with irregular boundary points. As a consequence, an old and central problem of fine potential theory, concerning the Riesz decomposition, is resolved. Namely, it is shown that, on certain fine domains, there exist positive finely superharmonic functions which do not admit any positive finely harmonic minorant and yet are not fine potentials.     

Regular variation of order 1 nonlinear AR-ARCH models

We prove both geometric ergodicity and regular variation of the stationary distribution for a class of nonlinear stochastic recursions that includes nonlinear AR-ARCH models of order 1. The Lyapounov exponent for the model, the index of regular variation and the spectral measure for the regular variation all are characterized by a simple two-state Markov chain.     

A large deviation principle for 2D stochastic Navier–Stokes equation

In this paper one specifies the ergodic behavior of the 2D-stochastic Navier–Stokes equation by giving a Large Deviation Principle for the occupation measure for large time. It describes the exact rate of exponential convergence. The considered random force is non-degenerate and compatible with the strong Feller property.
