The ion guide technique was developed in Jyv?skyl? during the early 1980's. In the ion guide the reaction recoil products
are stopped and thermalized in high purity helium gas where they remain ionic due to high ionization potential of helium atoms.
Different designs of ion guide exist for light-ion induced fusion reactions, for heavy-ion induced fusion and for proton induced
fission. Although the IGISOL method is fast and universal it is chemically unselective and in many cases relatively inefficient.
In order to address these deficiencies in the technique, a new laser ion source project, FURIOS (Fast Universal Resonant laser

Our investigations demonstrated that utilizing copper bromide (CuBr) mixture as a source of Cu atoms in a RF-excited discharge
can be a promising alternative to the Cu sputtered system, when the development of Cu ion gas laser is considered. Both spectroscopic
and laser investigations showed that the threshold input power for lasing was reduced about 5 times using the CuBr-based system
instead of the Cu-sputtered system. Pulsed and CW laser oscillation on Cu+ transitions in the near IR spectral region was obtained in RF-excited He-CuBr discharge operated at 13.56 MHz and 27.12 MHz.
At input RF power of 800 W, a laser output power of 10 mW at the 780.8 nm Cu ion laser line was achieved. An increase of laser
output power by a factor of two, as well as better Cu vapour axial distribution and better discharge stability, was attained
when DC discharge was superimposed on the RF discharge. Laser gain on 11 UV Cu ion lines was observed in RF-excited Ne-CuBr
discharge. basing on the obtained results, we consider the CuBr laser system excited by RF discharge capable of generating
UV laser radiation at relatively low input power.

The jam phenomenon in traffic flow wastes not only considerable traffic-transportation time but also great amounts of fuel
due to many accelerate-decelerate actions. From traffic-economic and traffic-pollution viewpoints, the suppression of traffic
jam is an important issue we have to solve. The present paper shows that -norm, which has been used in the field of control theory, can reveal the traffic jam phenomenon in an optimal velocity traffic
model under an open boundary condition. Furthermore, we suppress the traffic jam in the model by the decentralized delayed-feedback
control method. Some numerical simulations are shown to verify our theoretical results.

The effect of shear flow on the phase-ordering dynamics of a binary mixture with field-dependent mobility is investigated.
The problem is addressed in the context of the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau equation with an external velocity term, studied
in self-consistent approximation. Assuming a scaling ansatz for the structure factor, the asymptotic behavior of the observables
in the scaling regime can be analytically calculated. All the observables show log-time periodic oscillations which we interpret
as due to a cyclical mechanism of stretching and break-up of domains. These oscillations are damped as consequence of the
vanishing of the mobility in the bulk phase.

For w-legged antiferromagnetic spin-1/2 Heisenberg ladders, a long-range spin pairing order can be identified which enables the
separation of the space spanned by finite-range (covalent) valence-bond configurations into w
+1 subspaces. Since every subspace has an equivalent counter subspace connected by translational symmetry, twofold degeneracy,
breaking translational symmetry is found except for the subspace where the ground state of w = even belongs to. In terms of energy ordering, (non)degeneracy and the discontinuities introduced in the long-range spin
pairing order by topological spin defects, the differences between even and odd ladders are explained in a general and systematic
way.

Ferromagnetic spin chains of a hexagonal lattice coupled by a weak antiferromagnetic interaction J1 develop a helix arrangement if the intrachain antiferromagnetic NNN exchange J2 is sufficiently large. We show that the classical minimum energy spin configuration is an umbrella when an external magnetic field is applied. The scenario is dramatically changed by quantum fluctuations. Indeed we find
that the zero point motion forces the spins in a plane containing the magnetic field so that classical expectation is deceptive
for our model. Our result is obtained by controlled expansion in the low field-long wavelength modulation limit.
