2007年BCSPIN粒子物理与宇宙学国际暑期学校

今年6月18日上午,由中国科学院研究生院物理学院主办的BCSPIN粒子物理与宇宙学国际暑期学校开幕式在中国科学院研究生院中关村园区隆重举行。在为期九天的交流活动中,来自中国、美国、韩国、印度、越南、尼泊尔等12个国家的约260多名专家和青年学者将对粒子物理及宇宙学的前沿课题展开讨论。作为暑期学校的学术顾问,李政道先生莅临了本次开幕仪式。出席本次开幕仪式的其他嘉宾有:美国Dela-ware大学教授Q.Shaft、国家自然科学基金委员会数理科学部常务副主任汲培文、中国工程院院士叶铭汉先生、中国科学院研究生院教务长苏刚教授等。会议…     

施士元先生在物理学会年会上的讲话

诸位领导,老师们、同学们:非常高兴,在百岁之际,我还能出现在物理学会年会这个氛围庄严活跃、充满吸引力的学术园地。常言道:“人生不满百,常怀千岁忧。”而我,习惯于泰然处事,可以说是无忧无虑地走过了百年。回首既往,感慨殊多。1925年,我开始与物理学结下不解之缘。1929年,我从清华大学毕业,去法国巴黎大学居里夫人研究所学习。1933年回国之后,我一直在中央大学———南京大学任教。这么多年的教学科研实践和复杂多样的生活历程,无论是经验或是教训,对后人也许会有所启迪。所以,尽管我年迈体衰,我还是撰写了这本简短的回忆录。感谢南京大…     

Molecular Dynamics Simulation of Water Confined in Carbon Nanotubes

Molecular dynamics simulations are performed for water confined in carbon nanotubes with various diameters （11.0-13.8 A ）. The simulations under an isobaric pressure （one atmosphere） by lowering temperatures from 300 K to 190K are carried out. Water molecules within variously sized tubes tend to transform from disorder to order with different configurations （four-water-molecule ring, six-water-molecule ring and seven-water-molecule ring） at phase transition temperatures, which may be lowered by the increasing tube radius. It is also found that the configurations of water in （10, 10） tube are not unique （seven-molecule ring and seven-molecule ring plus water chain）.     

Effects of charge on the structures and spin moments of Nil3 cluster

The structural stability and magnetic properties of the icosahedral Ni13, Ni13^＋1 and Ni13^-1 clusters have been obtained by utilizing all-electron density functional theory with the generalized gradient approximations for the exchange-correlation energy. The calculated results show that the ground states of neutral and charged clusters all favour a D3d structure, a distorted icosahedron, due to the Jahn-Teller effect. The radial distortions caused by doping one electron and by doping one hole are opposite to each other. Doping one electron will result in a 1/2 decrease and doping one hole will result in a 1/2 increase of the total spin. Both increasing interatomic spacing and decreasing coordination will lead to an enhancement of the spin magnetic moments for Nil3 clusters.     

Effect of interface-roughness scattering on mobility degradation in SiGe p-MOSFETs with a high-k dielectric/SiO2 gate stack＊

A physical model for mobility degradation by interface-roughness scattering and Coulomb scattering is proposed for SiGe p-MOSFET with a high-k dielectric/SiO2 gate stack. Impacts of the two kinds of scatterings on mobility degradation are investigated. Effects of interlayer （SiO2） thickness and permittivities of the high-k dielectric and interlayer on carrier mobility are also discussed. It is shown that a smooth interface between high-k dielectric and interlayer, as well as moderate permittivities of high-k dielectrics, is highly desired to improve carriers mobility while keeping alow equivalent oxide thickness. Simulated results agree reasonably with experimental data.

量子:过去与现在

 量子概念代表了人类认识微观世界的核心观念，不仅说明了微观实物粒子存在的基本形式，而且描述了波与场所具有的粒子性特征。以量子力学为核心的现代量子理论，完整地描述了微观世界的量子行为。时至今日，虽然在量子力学基础方面，量子力学的含义还没有定论，但量子力学已成为现代科学的重要基石，导致了激光、半导体和核能技术的产生，深刻地影响了当代人类社会的生产力。     

Mach-Zehnder Interferometer Based on Coupled Dielectric Pillars

We propose a Mach-Zehnder interferometer （MZI） based on coupled dielectric pillars. It is composed of single-row pillar coupled waveguide modulating arms and three-row pillar waveguide 3 dB couplers. The slow light property and transmission loss of the single-row pillar modulating arm are optimized by the plane wave expansion method. A short 3dB coupler is designed based on the modes transformation in three-row pillar waveguide. Finite difference time domain simulations prove the validity of this MZI and show that it has low insertion loss of 1.1 dB and high extinction ratio of 〉 12 dB.     

窥视苍穹：从肉眼观星到太空望远镜

 “我的目标很简单，就是完全理解我们的宇宙，弄清它为什么会是今天这个样子，以及它究竟为什么存在。”《时间简史》的作者斯蒂芬·霍金恰如其分地表达了那种自远古时代起就不断驱使科学家和哲学家去研究宇宙的求知欲望。适用于地球本身的物理定律在天文尺度同样适用，这一简单假设已经在建立宇宙模型方面取得了引人注目的成功，从而导致了物理学根本性的飞跃和实用技术天翻地覆的进步。考虑到客观条件对天文观测的苛刻限制，我们能在理解宇宙的道路上走得如此之远可谓十分不寻常了。其他物理学家可以通过改变和限制各种参数来检测一个封闭系统的变化，而宇宙的宽广无垠却意味着天文学家永远受制于大自然而无能为力。因此，实验科学中这个出类拔萃的分支理应得到公平的对待和充分的认可。本文旨在简要回顾天文学观测从早期的肉眼观星发展到如今发射造价数十亿美金的太空望远镜的精彩历程。     

切伦科夫（Cherenkov，Pavel Alekseyevich，1904-1990）俄国物理学家（Physicist，Russia）

切伦科夫1928年进沃罗涅日大学学习。从1930年起，在前苏联科学院物理研究所工作。他的重要发现是：亚原子粒子的能量越大，它运动得就越快：但它永远不能比真空中的光速快。然而，光通过水等透明媒质时，速度要比在真空中慢。这时，高能粒子通过这类媒质时，它的速度就可能超过光在该媒质中的速度。这样，它就会拖着一条发光的“尾巴”。
