Microwave-assisted, solvent-free synthesis of 1-(α- or β-hydroxynaphthyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines by the Mannich reaction

As a new extension of the Mannich reaction of naphthols, 1-(hydroxynaphthyl)-substituted 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinolines were synthesized by the nucleophilic addition of 1- or 2-naphthol to 3,4-dihydroisoquinolines under solvent-free conditions, using microwave irradiation. The additions to 3-methyl-6,7-dimethoxy-3,4-dihydroisoquinoline proved to be a highly diastereoselective processes, resulting in the cis isomers as the main or the only products.     

1H NMR Detection of σ-Adducts in S NH Reactions of Nitroquinolines with Chloromethyl Phenyl Sulfone

The intermediate -adducts of chloromethyl phenyl sulfone with 3-nitro-, 5-nitro-, 6-nitro-, 7-nitro- and 8-nitroquinoline are detected by ¹H NMR spectroscopy.     

Synthesis ofO-methyloximes and nitrones of a series of substituted 4-[2-hydroxy-2-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)cyclohexylidenemethyl]-benzaldehydes and their fungicidal activity

O-Methyloximes and nitrones of a series of substituted 4-[2-hydroxy-2-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)cyclohexylidenemethyl]benzaldehydes have been synthesized, and their fungicidal activity has been assayed. Interaction of (1-phenylethyl)indole-2-carbonitrile with C-nucleophiles

Sulfonated polypropylene ionomers

Polypropylene ionomers have been prepared by sulfonation of copolymers of propene and 7 methyl, 1-6 octadiene, followed by neutralization to cesium salts. Both WAXS and SAXS were used to study the morphology of the samples, while their thermal properties were studied by DSC and their mechanical properties by DMTA. The sulfonation process is shown to cause a further drop in crystallinity in addition to the effect of comonomer incorporation. Ion clustering is observed when the extent of sulfonation is high enough, the limit being dependent on the copolymer composition. The ion pairs which are not incorporated into the cluster cause a small-angle upturn in the WAXS pattern. The mechanical properties are strongly affected by the drop in crystallinity, but may be partly recovered due to ion clustering. No disruption of the ion clusters is observed before thermal decomposition of the polymer.

Calculation of the proton affinities of polyfluorobenzenes and the activation energies for 1,2-hydrogen shifts in their carbocations

Isolated polyfluorobenzene (PFB) molecules and their protonated forms are investigated by the AM1 method with full geometry optimization. The proton affinities of PFB are estimated for different protonated positions. The proton affinity of PFB averaged over all isomers is shown to decrease monotonically as the number of fluorine atoms in the molecule increases. The relative populations of different isomers of arenonium ions (AI) formed by PFB protonation are determined. From the calculated data, the value of ⁺ for the F atom in theipso-position is estimated as 1.00. The activation energies of the 1,2-hydrogen shifts in AI are calculated. The dependences of the proton affinity and the activation energies of 1,2-hydrogen shifts on the number of halogen atoms are found to have distinct characters for PFB and polychlorobenzenes.
