Characterizations of the containment of a convex set either in an arbitrary convex set or in the complement of a finite union
of convex sets (i.e., the set, described by reverse-convex inequalities) are given. These characterizations provide ways of
verifying the containments either by comparing their corresponding dual cones or by checking the consistency of suitable associated
systems. The convex sets considered in this paper are the solution sets of an arbitrary number of convex inequalities, which
can be either weak or strict inequalities. Particular cases of dual characterizations of set containments have played key
roles in solving large scale knowledge-based data classification problems where they are used to describe the containments
as inequality constraints in optimization problems. The idea of evenly convex set (intersection of open half spaces), which
was introduced by W. Fenchel in 1952, is used to derive the dual conditions, characterizing the set containments. 相似文献
Cancer immunotherapy aims at stimulating the immune system to react against cancer stealth capabilities. It consists of repeatedly injecting small doses of a tumor-associated molecule one wants the immune system to recognize, until a consistent immune response directed against the tumor cells is observed.
We have applied the theory of optimal control to the problem of finding the optimal schedule of injections of an immunotherapeutic agent against cancer. The method employed works for a general ODE system and can be applied to find the optimal protocol in a variety of clinical problems where the kinetics of the drug or treatment and its influence on the normal physiologic functions have been described by a mathematical model.
We show that the choice of the cost function has dramatic effects on the kind of solution the optimization algorithm is able to find. This provides evidence that a careful ODE model and optimization schema must be designed by mathematicians and clinicians using their proper different perspectives. 相似文献
In this paper, nonconvex multiobjective optimization problems are studied. New characterizations of a properly efficient solution in the sense of Geoffrion's are established in terms of the stability of one scalar optimization problem and the existence of an exact penalty function of a scalar constrained program, respectively. In this paper, we review and unify some classes of generalized convex functions introduced by different authors to prove minimax results in infinite-dimensional spaces and show the relations between these classes. We list also for the most general class already introduced by Jeyakumar (Ref. 1) an elementary proof of a minimax result. The proof of this result uses only a finite-dimensional separa- tion theorem; although this minimax result was already presented by Neumann (Ref. 2) and independently by Jeyakumar (Ref. 1), we believe that the present proof is shorter and more transparent. 相似文献
In AIDS control, physicians have a growing need to use pragmatically useful and interpretable tools in their daily medical
taking care of patients. Semi-Markov process seems to be well adapted to model the evolution of HIV-1 infected patients. In
this study, we introduce and define a non homogeneous semi-Markov (NHSM) model in continuous time. Then the problem of finding
the equations that describe the biological evolution of patient is studied and the interval transition probabilities are computed.
A parametric approach is used and the maximum likelihood estimators of the process are given. A Monte Carlo algorithm is presented
for realizing non homogeneous semi-Markov trajectories. As results, interval transition probabilities are computed for distinct
times and follow-up has an impact on the evolution of patients.

Consider a portfolio containing heterogeneous risks. The premiums of the policyholders might not cover the amount of the payments which an insurance company pays the policyholders. When setting the premium, this risk has to be taken into consideration. On the other hand the premium that the insured pays has to be fair. This fairness is measured by a function of the difference between the risk and the premium paid—we call this function a distance function. For a given small probability of insolvency, we find the premium for each class, such that the distance function is minimized. Next we formulate and solve the dual problem, which is minimizing the insolvency probability under the constraint that the distance function does not exceed a given level. Active flow-separation control is an effective and efficient mean for drag reduction and unsteady load alleviation resulting
from locally or massively separated flow. Such a situation occurs in configurations where the aerodynamic performance is of
secondary importance to functionality. The performance of heavy transport helicopters and aeroplanes, having a large, and
almost flat, aft loading ramp suffer from the poor aerodynamics of the aft body. Hence, a combined experimental and numerical
investigation was undertaken on a generic transport aeroplane/helicopter configuration. The experimental study provided surface
pressures, direct drag measurements, surface and smoke flow visualization. The baseline flow was numerically analyzed, using
finite volume solutions of the RANS equations. The baseline flow around the model was insensitive to the Reynolds number in
the range it was tested. The flow separating from the aft body was characterized by two main sources of drag and unsteadiness.
The first is a separation bubble residing at the lower ramp corner and the second is a pair of vortex systems developing and
separating from the sides of the ramp. As the model incidence is decreased, the pair of vortex systems also penetrates deeper
towards the centerline of the ramp, decreasing the pressure and increasing the drag. As expected, the ramp lower corner bubble
was highly receptive to periodic excitation introduced from four addressable piezo-fluidic actuators situated at the ramp
lower corner. Total drag was reduced by 3–11%, depending on the model incidence. There are indications that the flow in the
wake of the model is also significantly steadier when the bubble at the lower ramp corner is eliminated. The vortex system
is tighter and steadier when the ramp-corner bubble is eliminated. 相似文献
