Soft almost disjoint families

An almost disjoint family is said to be soft if there is an infinite set that meets each in a nonempty but finite set. We consider the associated cardinal invariant defined to be the minimal cardinality of an almost disjoint family that is not soft. We show that this cardinal coincides with J. Brendle's cardinal .

In this paper, we introduce the concept of weakly reducible maximal triangular algebras φwhich form a large class of maximal triangular algebras. Let B be a weakly closed algebra containing 5φ, we prove that the cohomology spaces H^n(φ, B) (n≥1) are trivial.     

弱粘性流体中垂直激励表面波的阻尼效应

在竖直振动的圆柱形容器中,将Navier-Stokes方程线性化,利用两时间尺度奇异摄动展开法研究了弱粘性流体的单一自由面驻波运动．整个流场被分为外部势流区和内部边界层区两部分,对两部分区域分别求解,得到包含阻尼项和外驱动影响的线性振幅方程．利用稳定性分析,得到形成稳定表面波的条件,给出了临界曲线．此外,还获得了阻尼系数的解析表达式．最后,将线性阻尼加到理想流体条件下所得到的色散关系中对其进行修正,理论结果证明修正后的驱动频率更加接近实验的结果．通过计算发现,当驱动的频率较低时,流体的粘性对表面波模式选择有重要影响,而表面张力的影响不明显;但当驱动频率较高时,流体的表面张力起主要作用,而流体的粘性影响甚小．     

An Approximated Solution of the Einstein Equations for a Rotating Body with Negligible Mass

The paper considers the problem of finding the metric of space time around a rotating, weakly gravitating body. Both external and internal metric tensors are consistently found, together with an appropriate source tensor. All tensors are calculated at the lowest meaningful approximation in a power series. The two physical parameters entering the equations (the mass and the angular momentum per unit mass) are assumed to be such that the mass effects are negligible with respect to the rotation effects. A non zero Riemann tensor is obtained. The order of magnitude of the physical effects is discussed.     

A construction of weakly inverse semigroups

Let S° be an inverse semigroup with semilattice biordered set E° of idempotents and E a weakly inverse biordered set with a subsemilattice Ep = { e ∈ E ｜ arbieary f ∈ E, S（f , e） loheain in w（e）} isomorphic to E° by θ：Ep→E°. In this paper, it is proved that if arbieary f, g ∈E, f ←→ g→→ f°θD^s° g°θand there exists a mapping φ from Ep into the symmetric weakly inverse semigroup P J（E∪ S°） satisfying six appropriate conditions, then a weakly inverse semigroup ∑ can be constructed in P J（S°）, called the weakly inverse hull of a weakly inverse system （S°, E, θ, φ） with I（∑） ≌ S°, E（∑） ∽- E. Conversely, every weakly inverse semigroup can be constructed in this way. Furthermore, a sufficient and necessary condition for two weakly inverse hulls to be isomorphic is also given.     

A Connes-amenable, dual Banach algebra need not have a normal, virtual diagonal

Let be a locally compact group, and let denote the space of weakly almost periodic functions on . We show that, if is a -group, but not compact, then the dual Banach algebra does not have a normal, virtual diagonal. Consequently, whenever is an amenable, non-compact -group, is an example of a Connes-amenable, dual Banach algebra without a normal, virtual diagonal. On the other hand, there are amenable, non-compact, locally compact groups such that does have a normal, virtual diagonal.
