Racah operators for the group of motions

The author [5] introduced Racah operators for unitary representations of topological groups of type I. In the present paper, we indicate the explicit form of these operators for representations of the group of motions of three-dimensional Euclidean space.

On Hill's operator with a matrix potential

In this article we obtain asymptotic formulas for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the self‐adjoint operator generated by a system of Sturm–Liouville equations with summable coefficients and quasiperiodic boundary conditions. Then using these asymptotic formulas, we find conditions on the potential for which the number of gaps in the spectrum of the Hill's operator with matrix potential is finite. A Mann type iterative scheme for variational inequalities in noncompact subsets of Banach spaces

In this paper, we study the existence of solutions and approximation of the solutions by using a Mann type iterative scheme for variational inequalities in noncompact subsets of Banach spaces. The results presented in this paper generalize the corresponding results of J. Li [J. Li, On the existence of solutions of variational inequalities in Banach spaces, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 295 (2004) 115-126].     

Strong Convergence of Spherical Harmonic Expansions on H1(Sd-1)

Let $\sigma_k^\delta$ denote the Cesaro means of order $\delta > -1$ of the spherical harmonic expansions on the unit sphere $S^{d-1}$, and let $E_j(f, H^1)$ denote the best approximation of $f$ in the Hardy space $H^1(S^{d-1})$ by spherical polynomials of degree at most $j$. It is known that $\lambda:= (d-2)/2$ is the critical index for the summability of the Cesaro means on $H^1(S^{d-1})$. The main result of this paper states that, for $ f\in H^1(S^{d-1})$, $$\sum_{j=0}^N \f 1{j+1} \|\sigma_j^\lambda (f) -f\|_{H^1}\approx \sum_{j=0}^N \f 1{j+1} E_j(f, H^1),$$ where “$\approx$” means that the ratio of both sides lies between two positive constants independent of $f$ and $N$.     

A cubically convergent Newton-type method under weak conditions

Under weak conditions, we present an iteration formula to improve Newton's method for solving nonlinear equations. The method is free from second derivatives, permitting f^′(x)=0 in some points and per iteration it requires two evaluations of the given function and one evaluation of its derivative. Analysis of convergence demonstrates that the new method is cubically convergent. Some numerical examples illustrate that the algorithm is more efficient and performs better than classical Newton's method.

A regularization of nonlinear diffusion equations in a multiresolution framework

We develop a regularization technique for Perona–Malik diffusion equations that relies on multiresolution techniques. The main result of this paper is to show that the chosen discretization overcomes the ill posedness of the nonlinear Perona–Malik model. Hard-sphere binary-collision operators

The time displacement operator is described for a system of hard-sphere particles. We show how to avoid needing a representation for this operator in unphysical regions of phase space, and how to construct a useful representation in terms of binary collision operators in the physical region. The various binary collision operators used for hard-sphere systems are derived for the case of a system of two spheres, and the results are generalized toN-particle systems.Dedicated to Prof. E. G.
