We study the motion of a spiral wave controlled by a local periodic forcing imposed on a region around the spiral tip in an excitable medium. Three types of trajectories of spiral tip are observed: the epicycloid-like meandering, the resonant drift, and the hypocycloid-like meandering. The frequency of the spiral is sensitive to the local periodic forcing. The dependency of spiral frequency on the amplitude and size of local periodic forcing are presented. In addition, we show how the drift speed and direction are adjusted by the amplitude and phase of local periodic forcing, which is consistent with a theoretical analysis based on the weak deformation approximation. 相似文献

The controllable optical mirror is experimentally accomplished in a Λ-type three-level atomic system coupled with standing wave. It is shown that the reflection of probe light results from electromagnetically-induced-transparency-based four-wave mixing, therefore the reflection efficiency is highly dependent on the angle for phase matching condition between the probe and coupling fields. Protection of entanglement from disturbance of the environment is an essential task marion processing. We examine the validity and limitation of the weak measurement and reversal in quantum infor- (WMR) operation in the protection of distributed entanglement from various decoherence sources. Since the entanglement variation can be investigated analytically for an arbitrarily entangled bipartite pure state under three kinds of typical noisy quantum channels, we show explicitly that the WMR operation indeed helps for protecting distributed entanglement from ampli- tude damping and phase damping, but not for depolarizing. We present results from an extended magneto-optical (MO) analysis of two samples cut from high-density pellets of MgB2. The first sample was studied in order to show that no matter how large the sample is and despite the bulk granularity, the
material enters into a critical state in a crystal-like fashion. The second sample was chosen for the quantitative analysis.
A numerical approach based on an inverted 2D Biot-Savart model was used to calculate the current paths across the homogeneous
polycrystalline bulk, as well as in the vicinity and across some morphological defects. Local current densities in the homogeneous
part were estimated as a function of the applied magnetic field at different temperatures, in three regimes: below full penetration,
at full penetration and above full penetration, respectively. A hypothesis of interpretation of the apparent absence of magnetic
granularity inside the polycrystalline microstructure is presented. It is related to a critical state likely reached by a
network of strongly coupled Josephson junctions.

Transient flow over erodible bed is solved in this work assuming that the dynamics of the bed load problem is described by two mathematical models: the hydrodynamic model, assumed to be well formulated by means of the depth averaged shallow water equations, and the Exner equation. The Exner equation is written assuming that bed load transport is governed by a power law of the flow velocity and by a flow/sediment interaction parameter variable in time and space. The complete system is formed by four coupled partial differential equations and a genuinely Roe-type first order scheme has been used to solve it on triangular unstructured meshes. Exact solutions have been derived for the particular case of initial value Riemann problems with variable bed level and depending on particular forms of the solid discharge formula. The model, supplied with the corresponding solid transport formulae, is tested by comparing with the exact solutions. Under certain conditions of liquid flow through rotating channels, the Coriolis force can induce a free surface to be formed. This problem is of practical importance in a Coriolis wear tester, which is used for determining the sliding wear coefficient of wear materials in slurry handling equipment. A deforming Galerkin finite element method is presented for predicting two‐dimensional turbulent free surface mean flow in rotating channels. Reynolds‐averaged Navier–Stokes (RANS) equations are cast into weak(algebraic) form using primitive variables (velocity and pressure). Eddy viscosity is determined via a mixing length model. Velocity is interpolated biquadratically, while pressure is interpolated bilinearly. The kinematic condition is used to form the Galerkin residual for the free surface. The free surface is represented by Hermite polynomials of zeroeth order for continuity of position and slope. Combined Newton's iteration is used to simultaneously solve for the free surface and the field variables. Results of velocity and pressure fields, as well as the free surface are shown to converge with mesh‐size refinement. There is excellent respect for mass conservation. Results are presented for various values of Rossby number (Ro) and height‐based Reynolds number (ReH). Parameter continuation in Ro and ReH space is used to compute solutions at higher values of flow rate and angular velocity. Copyright © 2002 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献
