Testing for independence by the empirical characteristic function

Tests of total independence of d (≥2) random variables are proposed using the empirical characteristic function. The approach is parallel to that of Hoeffding, Blum, Kiefer, and Rosenblatt.     

Global weak solutions to a ferrofluid flow model

We are concerned with the global solvability of the differential system introduced by Shliomis to describe the flow of a colloidal suspension of magnetized nanoparticles in a nonconducting liquid, under the action of an external magnetic field. The system is a combination of the Navier–Stokes equations, the magnetization equation, and the magnetostatic equations. We prove, by using a method of regularization, the existence of global‐in‐time weak solutions with finite energy to an initial boundary‐value problem and establish the long‐time behaviour of such solutions. The main difficulty is due to the singularity of the gradient magnetic force and the torque. Copyright © 2007 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

A quark model study of semileptonic baryon decays in the electronic decay modes

A relativistic quark model based on Dirac equation with the independent-quark confining potential of the form (1 +γ ⁰)[a ln(r/b)] is used to compute the weak electric and magnetic form factors for semileptonic baryonic decays in the electronic decay modes. The values obtained for (g ₂/g ₁) agree with the non relativistic results and those for (f ₂/f ₁) agree with the MIT bag model values of Donoghue and Holstein. The SU(3) symmetry breaking does not generate appreciable departures in (f ₂/f ₁) values from corresponding Cabibbo values.     

On the convergence of the random arrival rule in large claims problems

We study the behavior of the random arrival rule in claims problems with a large number of claimants. We assume that the amount to divide is not too “small” compared with total claims, and each claim is not too “large” compared with any other positive claims. Then, the random arrival rule behaves like the proportional rule as the number of claimants increases. We are grateful to Yuki Funaki, William Thomson, and three referees for their comments. A Theory on Flat Histogram Monte Carlo Algorithms

The flat histogram Monte Carlo algorithms have been successfully used in many problems in scientific computing.However, there is no a rigorous theory for the convergence of the algorithms. In this paper, a modified flat histogram algorithm is presented and its convergence is studied. The convergence of the multicanonical algorithm and the Wang-Landau algorithm is argued based on their relations to the modified algorithm. The numerical results show the superiority of the modified algorithm to the multicanonical and Wang-Landau algorithms. PACS number: 02.70.Tt, 02.50.Ng     

Continuity of Weak Solutions for Quasilinear Parabolic Equations with Strong Degeneracy

The aim of this paper is to study the continuity of weak solutions for quasilinear degenerate parabolic equations of the form U_t-Δφ(u)=O, whereφ■C~1(R~1)is a strictly monotone increasing function.Clearly,the above equation has strong degeneracy,i.e.,the set of zero points ofφ′(·)is permitted to have zero measure. This is an answer to an open problem in[13,p.288].     

关于DRCE随机阵列的若干极限性质

本文充分利用了ＤＲＣＥ随机变量阵列的特殊结构，在强大数律和ｒ－＝阶矩收敛速度方面，取得了类似ｉｉｄ，序列的结果；并在适当的条件下证明了完全收敛性。     

轻子与中性弱规范玻色子的弹性散射

在Ｗｅｉｎｂｅｒｇ－Ｓａｌａｍ弱电统一理论中，计算了在新粒子产生阈能以下的轻子与中性弱规范子即Ｚ玻色子的弹性散射振幅，以及相应的散射截面角分布。
