Robin Boundary Value Problem for One-Dimensional Landau–Lifshitz Equations

In this paper, we are concerned with the existence and uniqueness of global smooth solution for the Robin boundary value problem of Landau-Lifshitz equations in one dimension when the boundary value depends on time t. Furthermore, by viscosity vanishing approach, we get the existence and uniqueness of the problem without Gilbert damping term when the boundary value is independent of t.     

Estimates of approximation numbers and applications

In this study, the estimates of approximation numbers of embedding operators in weighted spaces have been analyzed. These estimates depend on orders of differential operators, dimensions of function spaces and weighted functions. This fact implies that the associated embedding operators belong to Schatten class of compact operators. By using these estimates, the discreetness of spectrum and completion of root elements relating to principal nonselfedjoint degenerate differential operators is obtained.

Successive iteration and positive symmetric solution for a Sturm–Liouville-like four-point boundary value problem with a -Laplacian operator

In this paper, we consider the following Sturm–Liouville-like four-point p-Laplacian boundary value problem with the nonlinear term f depending on the first-order derivative subject to the boundary conditions By using a monotone iterative technique, the existence of symmetric positive solutions and corresponding iterative schemes are obtained.     

Living with influenza: Impacts of government imposed and voluntarily selected interventions

Focusing on mitigation strategies for global pandemic influenza, we use elementary mathematical models to evaluate the implementation and timing of non-pharmaceutical intervention strategies such as travel restrictions, social distancing and improved hygiene. A spreadsheet model of infection spread between several linked heterogeneous communities is based on analytical calculations and Monte Carlo simulations. Since human behavior will likely change during the course of a pandemic, thereby altering the dynamics of the disease, we incorporate a feedback parameter into our model to reflect altered behavior. Our results indicate that while a flu pandemic could be devastating; there are coping methods that when implemented quickly and correctly can significantly mitigate the severity of a global outbreak.
