Thermal conductance for single wall carbon nanotubes

We report a theoretical analysis of the phonon thermal conductance, κ(T), for single wall carbon nanotubes (SWCN). In a range of low temperatues up to 100 K, κ(T) of perfect SWCN is found to increase with temperature, approximately, in a parabolic fashion. This is qualitatively consistent with recent experimental measurements where the tube-tube interactions are negligibly weak. When the carbon-carbon bond length is slightly varied, κ(T) is found to be qualitatively unaltered which implies that the anharmonic effect does not change the qualitative behavior of κ(T). Anderson transition in dilute systems with pure exponential interactions

Summary Assuming a completely disordered lattice it is shown that all the states are localized when the disorder parameterx=a ₀/0 reachesthe value 0.31, wherea is the mean atomic separation anda ₀ is the Bohr radius.     

Wave-vector diagrams for two-dimensional photonic crystals

Photonic crystals exhibit band gaps, meaning that electromagnetic fields cannot propagate in them for specific ranges of wavelengths and directions. The calculation of band structure diagrams has been intensively studied and is now well understood. In contrast to that, so-called wave-vector diagrams (i.e. dispersion surfaces, depicting the loci of all relevant wave vectors at a fixed wavelength) are less known and used. In principle, they show how the effective index of the structure depends on the direction of propagation. A method to calculate explicitly wave-vector diagrams for two-dimensional photonic crystals is derived which leads finally to quadratic eigenvalue problems. Results for square and triangular lattices are presented and some applications are discussed.     

Constrained control for uncertain linear systems

The linear state feedback synthesis problem for uncertain linear systems with state and control constraints is considered. We assume that the uncertainties are present in both the state and input matrices and they are bounded. The main goal is to find a linear control law assuring that both state and input constraints are fulfilled at each time. The problem is solved by confining the state within a compact and convex positively invariant set contained in the allowable state region.It is shown that, if the controls, the state, and the uncertainties are subject to linear inequality constraints and if a candidate compact and convex polyhedral set is assigned, a feedback matrix assuring that this region is positively invariant for the closed-loop system is found as a solution of a set of linear inequalities for both continuous and discrete time design problems.These results are extended to the case in which additive disturbances are present. The relationship between positive invariance and system stability is investigated and conditions for the existence of positively invariant regions of the polyhedral type are given.The author is grateful to Drs. Thermal and chemical nanofractal relaxation

We studied shape relaxation of nano-fractal islands, during annealing, after their growth from antimony cluster deposition on graphite surface. Annealing at 180^°C shows evidence of an increase of the fractal branch width with time followed by branch fragmentation, without changing the fractal dimension. The time evolution of the width of the arm suggests the surface self-diffusion mechanism as the main relaxation process. With Monte Carlo simulations, we confirmed the observed behavior. Comparison is done with our previous results on fragmentation of nano-fractal silver islands when impurity added to the incident cluster promotes rapid fragmentation by surface self-diffusion enhancement [1].     

Infrared thermography of masonry structures

The attention of the present paper was devoted to nondestructive evaluation of masonry structures with a Focal Plane Array infrared camera. Tests were carried out in laboratory on specimens, which simulated one- and two-layer structures, with defects of different geometry and nature and located at different depths. The defects detection was analysed through a cause/effect relationship between the characteristics of defects and hosting material and the observed defect thermal signature, or contrast, on the hosting material.     

不确定性因素对我国农村居民现金消费支出的影响分析

本文根据1978—2003年中国农村居民现金消费支出数据,综合考虑影响消费的主要因素来研究中国农村居民的现金消费行为。与以往研究不同的是,对于影响消费支出的不确定性因素,本文不是采用某个具体变量进行近似替代,而是采用刻画不确定性的条件异方差来描述。文章的结论是农村居民现金消费支出的主要影响因素并非收入,而是利率和不确定性因素,不确定性因素在1996年后表现得尤为突出。     

基于偏差的不确定型多属性决策的综合集成方法

对不确定型条件下的多属性决策问题,规范化后的区间数能消除属性值之间量纲的差异,建立了相离度偏差、中间值偏差和理想方案偏差计算公式,构建了以总偏差平方和为目标函数的综合集成优化模型,求解出各属性的客观权重,提出了一种客观属性权重的可能度法,为不确定型多属性决策提供了一种简单实用的可靠方法.最后通过一个算例说明了该方法的实用性和有效性.
