Semi-discrete breather in a helicoidal DNA double chain-model

The nonlinear dynamics of DNA molecular chain is studied for longitudinal and transversal motions through a new discrete helicoidal zigzag model with four degrees of freedom. We take into account the Stokes and hydrodynamical viscous forces. In the semi-discrete approximation, we show that the coupled nonlinear partial differential equations for the longitudinal and transversal out-of-phase motions can be reduced to the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with complex coefficients, allowing analytical breather soliton solution. We found analytically as well as numerically that increasing the damping constant reduces the amplitude and increases the width of the soliton. When the zigzag angle decreases, the height of the soliton increases, but its width remains constant. The linear stability analysis of the system is performed. The growth rate of the instability and the instability regions are discussed as the functions of damping constant, zigzag angle and system parameters.     

Abundant semigroups with a multiplicative quasi-adequate transversal

The concept of quasi-adequate transversals is introduced. Some properties and characterizations for abundant semigroups with a multiplicative quasi-adequate transversal are obtained. In particular, a structure theorem for such abundant semigroups is given. Finally, some special cases are considered. On the energetics of transversal and longitudinal fluctuations of atomic magnetic moments

By constrained spin-density functional calculations we estimate the relative role of the longitudinal and transversal fluctuations of the magnetic moments in the series of 3d metals (bcc Fe, hcp and fcc Co, and fcc Ni) for weak excitations from the ferromagnetic ground state. It is shown that the importance of longitudinal fluctuations strongly varies from relatively small in bcc Fe to large in fcc Ni. This means that a consistent adiabatic treatment of the low-energy spin fluctuations should include independent longitudinal fluctuations.

Biembedding Abelian groups with mates having transversals

A certain recursive construction for biembeddings of Latin squares has played a substantial role in generating large numbers of nonisomorphic triangular embeddings of complete graphs. In this article, we prove that, except for the groups and C ₄ , each Latin square formed from the Cayley table of an Abelian group appears in a biembedding in which the second Latin square has a transversal. Latin Squares with Restricted Transversals

The original article to which this erratum refers was correctly published online on 1 December 2011. Due to an error at the publisher, it was then published in Journal of Combinatorial Designs 20: 124–141, 2012 without the required shading in several examples. To correct this, the article is here reprinted in full. The publisher regrets this error. We prove that for all odd there exists a latin square of order 3m that contains an latin subrectangle consisting of entries not in any transversal. We prove that for all even there exists a latin square of order n in which there is at least one transversal, but all transversals coincide on a single entry. A corollary is a new proof of the existence of a latin square without an orthogonal mate, for all odd orders . Finally, we report on an extensive computational study of transversal‐free entries and sets of disjoint transversals in the latin squares of order .
