Splitting Formulas for the Higher and Lower Energy Levels of the One-Dimensional Schrödinger Operator

We compare the asymptotic formulas for splitting higher and lower energy levels for the one-dimensional Schrödinger operator with the double-well potential. We establish that the splitting value for the lower energy level is proportional to that calculated for the higher levels with the factor . An analogous result is found for the width of bands in the periodic case.     

Expression of Human Hepatitis B Virus Surface Antigen Gene in Transgenic Tobacco

Expression of Human hepatitis B virus surface antigen (HBsAg) gene in plant was reported for the first time. The recombinant plasmid pRoKⅡ-HBsAg was constructed by inserting HBsAg gene into the downstream of CaMV 35S promoter of binary vector pRoKⅡ and then introduced into Agrobacterium tumefaciens LBA4404. The kanamycin-resistant plants were obtained by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation system. It was shown that HBsAg gene was expressed in transgenic tobacco plants and their progenies by ELISA. The spherical particles of ψ 22 nm in the leaf extract of trangenic tobacco were observed by immunosorbent electron microscopy.     

TURNIP MOSAIC VIRUS COAT PROTEIN GENE: CLONING AND CONSTRUCTION OF THE PLANT VECTOR

Complementary DNAs to turnip mosaic virus (a radish Raphanus stativus isolate) genomicRNA were synthesized using oligo (dT) as primer and cloned into the vector λ-ZAP Ⅱ. Afterhybridization with a single-stranded cDNA probe and the sequencing of inserted DNA,positive clones with poly--A tails were obtained. One clone containing 1429-base pair insertwas sequenced. The coat protein gene was identified based on the molecular weight of theTuMV coat protein and the consensus sequences of the polyprotein processing sites ofpotyviruses. The 5' end of the coat protein gene was modified by PCR to introduce aninitiation codon, ATG, and two restriction enzyme sites. The gene was then manipulatedinto a binary vector pBIN437 which was derived from pBI121, and the plant expressionvector is being used to transform Brassica napus.

Statistical analysis of gene regulatory networks reconstructed from gene expression data of lung cancer

Recently, inferring gene regulatory network from large-scale gene expression data has been considered as an important effort to understand the life system in whole. In this paper, for the purpose of getting further information about lung cancer, a gene regulatory network of lung cancer is reconstructed from gene expression data. In this network, vertices represent genes and edges between any two vertices represent their co-regulatory relationships. It is found that this network has some characteristics which are shared by most cellular networks of health lives, such as power-law, small-world behaviors. On the other hand, it also presents some features which are obviously different from other networks, such as assortative mixing. In the last section of this paper, the significance of these findings in the context of biological processes of lung cancer is discussed.     

The Generalized Multiset Sampler

The multiset sampler, an MCMC algorithm recently proposed by Leman and coauthors, is an easy-to-implement algorithm which is especially well-suited to drawing samples from a multimodal distribution. We generalize the algorithm by redefining the multiset sampler with an explicit link between target distribution and sampling distribution. The generalized formulation replaces the multiset with a K-tuple, which allows us to use the algorithm on unbounded parameter spaces, improves estimation, and sets up further extensions to adaptive MCMC techniques. Theoretical properties of the algorithm are provided and guidance is given on its implementation. Examples, both simulated and real, confirm that the generalized multiset sampler provides a simple, general and effective approach to sampling from multimodal distributions.
