Extension on absolute summability factors of infinite series

Extension and improvement has been made on a recent result proved by Mazhar [S.M. Mazhar, Absolute summability factors of infinite series, Kyungpook Math. J. 39 (1999) 67-73] concerning absolute summability factors of infinite series.     

Explicit bounds for multidimensional linear recurrences with restricted coefficients

This note employs path counting techniques to extend recent results on bounds for odd order linear recurrences to higher dimensions. The results imply optimal zero-free polydisks for multivariable power series with 0, 1 coefficients. Among the applications is a result that states that the optimal zero-free polydisk has radius approximately 1/(v+1), for large dimensions v.     

Weyl type theorem and hypercyclic operators

Using a variant of the essential approximate point spectrum, we give the necessary and sufficient conditions for T for which the a-Browder's theorem or the a-Weyl's theorem holds. Also, the relation between hypercyclic operators (or supercyclic operators) and the operators which satisfy Weyl type theorem is discussed.     

On the zeros of basic finite Hankel transforms

In this article we prove that the basic finite Hankel transform whose kernel is the third-type Jackson q-Bessel function has only infinitely many real and simple zeros, provided that q satisfies a condition additional to the standard one. We also study the asymptotic behavior of the zeros. The obtained results are applied to investigate the zeros of q-Bessel functions as well as the zeros of q-trigonometric functions. A basic analog of a theorem of G. Pólya (1918) on the zeros of sine and cosine transformations is also given.     

Integrating factors, adjoint equations and Lagrangians

Integrating factors and adjoint equations are determined for linear and non-linear differential equations of an arbitrary order. The new concept of an adjoint equation is used for construction of a Lagrangian for an arbitrary differential equation and for any system of differential equations where the number of equations is equal to the number of dependent variables. The method is illustrated by considering several equations traditionally regarded as equations without Lagrangians. Noether's theorem is applied to the Maxwell equations.     

Unconditionally Cauchy series and Cesàro summability

In this paper we obtain new characterizations of weakly unconditionally Cauchy series and unconditionally convergent series through Cesàro summability. We study new spaces associated to a series in a Banach space; as a consequence, new characterizations of complete and barrelled normed spaces are proved.     

Time shifted aliasing error upper bounds for truncated sampling cardinal series

Time shifted aliasing error upper bound extremals for the sampling reconstruction procedure are fully characterized. Sharp upper bounds are found on the aliasing error of truncated cardinal series and the corresponding extremals are described for entire functions from certain specific Lp, p>1, classes. Analogous results are obtained in multidimensional regular sampling. Truncation error analysis is provided in all cases considered. Moreover, sharpness of bounding inequalities, convergence rates and various sufficient conditions are discussed.     

Generalized nonlinear models of suspension bridges

This paper generalizes some results established in [J. Malík, Nonlinear models of suspension bridges, J. Math. Anal. Appl., in press]. The geometric nonlinearity connected with the torsion of a road bed is included in the generalized model. The basic variational equations are derived from the principle of minimum energy. The existence of a solution to the generalized problem is proved. The existence is based on the Brouwer fixed-point theorem.     

A localization inequality for set functions

We prove the following theorem, which is an analog for discrete set functions of a geometric result of Lovász and Simonovits. Given two real-valued set functions f₁,f₂ defined on the subsets of a finite set S, satisfying for i∈{1,2}, there exists a positive multiplicative set function μ over S and two subsets A,B⊆S such that for i∈{1,2}μ(A)f_i(A)+μ(B)f_i(B)+μ(A∪B)f_i(A∪B)+μ(A∩B)f_i(A∩B)?0. The Ahlswede-Daykin four function theorem can be deduced easily from this.
