Momentum transport and torque scaling in Taylor-Couette flow from an analogy with turbulent convection

We generalize an analogy between rotating and stratified shear flows. This analogy is summarized in Table 1. We use this analogy in the unstable case (centrifugally unstable flow vs. convection) to compute the torque in Taylor-Couette configuration, as a function of the Reynolds number. At low Reynolds numbers, when most of the dissipation comes from the mean flow, we predict that the non-dimensional torque G = T/ν² L, where L is the cylinder length, scales with Reynolds number R and gap width η, G = 1.46η^3/2(1 - η)^-7/4 R ^3/2. At larger Reynolds number, velocity fluctuations become non-negligible in the dissipation. In these regimes, there is no exact power law dependence the torque versus Reynolds. Instead, we obtain logarithmic corrections to the classical ultra-hard (exponent 2) regimes: G = 0.50 . These predictions are found to be in excellent agreement with avail-able experimental data. 考虑货架存放期的经济批量排产问题的求解

在化工、造纸、制药、钢铁等工业生产中，一台设备或一条生产线可以生产多种产品的情况很常见。在生产中，如何安排各类产品的生产顺序以及生产数量显得十分重要。这类问题通常称作经济批量排产问题，这类问题是生产库存中的经典问题。本文研究的经济批量排产问题考虑了产品货架存放期因素，针对以往研究的不足，本文提出用批量变动方法求解该类问题，由计算结果显示，按照这种排产方法花费的成本要低于其他两种经济批量排产问题常用的方法。     

TWO-POINT BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEM FOR A CLASS OF SECOND-ORDER DIFFERENCE EQUATIONS

In this paper, we apply a critical point theorem and obtain the condition for the existence of three solutions to two-point boundary value problem of a second order nonlinear difference equation.     

Multilevel preconditioners for a quadrature Galerkin solution of a biharmonic problem

Efficient multilevel preconditioners are developed and analyzed for the quadrature finite element Galerkin approximation of the biharmonic Dirichlet problem. The quadrature scheme is formulated using the Bogner–Fox–Schmit rectangular element and the product two‐point Gaussian quadrature. The proposed additive and multiplicative preconditioners are uniformly spectrally equivalent to the operator of the quadrature scheme. The preconditioners are implemented by optimal algorithms, and they are used to accelerate convergence of the preconditioned conjugate gradient method. 不同重力环境下辐射加热材料表面着火特性分析

研究外界辐射加热下，不同重力环境中热薄燃料的着火特性．探讨了重力、环境氧浓度、环境压力及外界辐射强度对着火的影响．结果表明，随着重力的变化，存在不同的着火机制．在微重力和在高的环境氧浓度中，材料的着火延迟时间变短．压力减小，着火延迟时间增大．随着辐射强度的增大，着火延迟时间变小．     

Finite Element Solution of Conical Diffraction Problems

This paper is devoted to the numerical study of diffraction by periodic structures of plane waves under oblique incidence. For this situation Maxwell's equations can be reduced to a system of two Helmholtz equations in R ² coupled via quasiperiodic transmission conditions on the piecewise smooth interfaces between different materials. The numerical analysis is based on a strongly elliptic variational formulation of the differential problem in a bounded periodic cell involving nonlocal boundary operators. We obtain existence and uniqueness results for discrete solutions and provide the corresponding error analysis.
