Dispersion relations and the spin polarizabilities of the nucleon

A forward dispersion calculation is implemented for the spin polarizabilities γ₁,,γ₄ of the proton and the neutron. These polarizabilities are related to the spin structure of the nucleon at low energies and are structure-constants of the Compton scattering amplitude at . In the absence of a direct experimental measurement of these quantities, a dispersion calculation serves the purpose of constraining the model building, and of comparing with recent calculations in heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory.

The projection operator approach to the Fokker-Planck equation. II. Dichotomic and nonlinear Gaussian noise

Two models for the Freedericksz transition in a fluctuating magnetic field are considered: one is based on a dichotomic and the other on a nonlinear Gaussian noise. Both noises are characterized by a finite correlation time. It is shown that the linear response assumption leading to the best Fokker-Planck approximation in the dichotomic and nonlinear Gaussian cases can be trusted only up to the order ¹ and ⁰, respectively. The role of the corrections to the linear response approximation is discussed and it is shown how to replace the non-Fokker-Planck terms stemming from these corrections with equivalent terms of standard type. This technique is shown to produce perfect agreement with the exact analytical results (dichotomic noise) and to satisfactorily fit the results of analog simulation (nonlinear Gaussian noise).

群青颜料呈色机理的电子顺磁共振研究

A theoretical approach to substituent effects: Interaction between directly bonded groups in the isoelectronic series XNH3+, XCH3, and XBH3−

Ab initio molecular orbital theory including full geometry optimization at the 4-31G level is used to examine the interactions between substitutents X(X = Li, BeH, BH₂, CH₃, NH₂, OH and F) and substrates Y(Y = NH₃⁺, CH₃, BH₃^?) in the isoelectronic series XNH₃⁺, XCH₃ and XBH₃^?. The results indicate that the interaction energies are dominated by σ-effects. NH₃⁺ is found to interact favorably with the σ-donors (e.g. Li, BeH and BH₂) and unfavorably with the σ-acceptors (e.g. F, OH, NH₂). The reverse pattern a observed for XBH₃^?. The range of interaction energies for XCH₃ is considerably smaller than for XNH₃⁺ and XBH₃^?.
