Possibilistic linear regression analysis for fuzzy data

Fuzzy data given by expert knowledge can be regarded as a possibility distribution by which possibilistic linear systems are defined. Recently, it has become important to deal with fuzzy data in connection with expert knowledge. Three formulations of possibilistic linear regression analysis are proposed here to deal with fuzzy data. Since our formulations can be reduced to linear programming problems, the merit of our formulations is to be able to obtain easily fuzzy parameters in possibilistic linear models and to add other constraint conditions which might be obtained from expert knowledge of fuzzy parameters. This approach can be regarded as a fuzzy interval analysis in a fuzzy environment.     

Qualitative properties and stabilizability of a model for blood thrombin formation

We perform a qualitative analysis of a differential equation that was originally introduced by Stortelder, Hemker and Hemker to model the formation of thrombin, and discuss issues of controllability and stabilizability. Results include a general proof of convergence to equilibrium, and of local exponential stabilizability.

We compute Hölder Complexes, i.e. the complete bi-Lipschitz invariants, for germs of real weighed homogeneous algebraic or semialgebraic surfaces.     

A trace theorem for Dirichlet forms on fractals

We consider a trace theorem for self-similar Dirichlet forms on self-similar sets to self-similar subsets. In particular, we characterize the trace of the domains of Dirichlet forms on Sierpinski gaskets and Sierpinski carpets to their boundaries, where the boundaries are represented by triangles and squares that confine the gaskets and the carpets. As an application, we construct diffusion processes on a collection of fractals called fractal fields. These processes behave as an appropriate fractal diffusion within each fractal component of the field.

Constructions of optimal difference systems of sets

Difference systems of sets (DSSs) are combinatorial configurations which were introduced in 1971 by Levenstein for the construction of codes for synchronization. In this paper, we present two kinds of constructions of difference systems of sets by using disjoint difference families and a special type of difference sets, respectively. As a consequence, new infinite classes of optimal DSSs are obtained.     

A Cahn-Hilliard model in a domain with non-permeable walls

We consider in this article a Cahn-Hilliard model in a bounded domain with non-permeable walls, characterized by dynamic-type boundary conditions. Dynamic boundary conditions for the Cahn-Hilliard system have recently been proposed by physicists in order to account for the interactions with the walls in confined systems and are obtained by writing that the total bulk mass is conserved and that there is a relaxation dynamics on the boundary. However, in the case of non-permeable walls, one should also expect some mass on the boundary. It thus seems more realistic to assume that the total mass, in the bulk and on the boundary, is conserved, which leads to boundary conditions of a different type. For the resulting mathematical model, we prove the existence and uniqueness of weak solutions and study their asymptotic behavior as time goes to infinity.     

Curvature Estimates for the Level Sets of Solutions to the Monge-Amp`ere Equation detD2u = 1

For the Monge-Ampere equation det D2u = 1, the authors find new auxiliary curvature functions which attain their respective maxima on the boundary. Moreover, the upper bounded estimates for the Gauss curvature and the mean curvature of the level sets for the solution to this equation are obtained.     

Decision making with imprecise probabilities and utilities by means of statistical preference and stochastic dominance

A problem of decision making under uncertainty in which the choice must be made between two sets of alternatives instead of two single ones is considered. A number of choice rules are proposed and their main properties are investigated, focusing particularly on the generalizations of stochastic dominance and statistical preference. The particular cases where imprecision is present in the utilities or in the beliefs associated to two alternatives are considered.
