Engel subalgebras of finite-dimensional n-Lie algebras are shown to have similar properties to those of Lie algebras. Using these, it is shown that an n-Lie algebra, all of whose maximal subalgebras are ideals, is nilpotent. A primitive 2-soluble n-Lie algebra is shown to split over its minimal ideal, and all the complements to its minimal ideal are conjugate. A subalgebra is shown to be a Cartan subalgebra if and only if it is minimal Engel, provided that the field has sufficiently many elements. In this note, we show that the set of all commuting d-tuples of commuting n×n matrices that are contained in an n-dimensional commutative algebra is a closed set, and therefore, Gerstenhaber's theorem on commuting pairs of matrices is a consequence of the irreduciblity of the variety of commuting pairs. We show that the variety of commuting triples of 4×4 matrices is irreducible. We also study the variety of n-dimensional commutative subalgebras of Mn(F), and show that it is irreducible of dimension n2n for n4, but reducible, of dimension greater than n2n for n7.  相似文献

A characterization of tame automorphisms of the algebra of polynomials in three variables over a field of characteristic is obtained. In particular, it is proved that the well-known Nagata automorphism is wild. It is also proved that the tame and the wild automorphisms of are algorithmically recognizable.

Let be a subalgebra of a nest algebra . If contains all rank one operators in , then is said to be large; if the set of rank one operators in coincides with that in the Jacobson radical of , is said to be radical-type. In this paper, algebraic isomorphisms of large subalgebras and of radical-type subalgebras are characterized. Let be a nest of subspaces of a Hilbert space and be a subalgebra of the nest algebra associated to (). Let be an algebraic isomorphism from onto . It is proved that is spatial if one of the following occurs: (1) () is large and contains a masa; (2) () is large and closed; (3) () is a closed radical-type subalgebra and ( is quasi-continuous (i.e. the trivial elements of are limit points); (4) () is large and one of and is not quasi-continuous.
