Handling contacts in an Eulerian frame: a finite element approach for fluid structures with contacts

ABSTRACTEulerian variational formulations for deformable solids, with or without fluids around them, end up, after implicit time discretisation, as large non-linear systems for the velocities in the moving domains. Handling moving domains and moving boundaries requires careful meshing procedures; on the other hand, the detection of contact is particularly simple with a distance function. Then at every time step, a variational inequality can be used to update the velocities. Our result gives an improvement of the recent result. In this paper, anisotropic Crouzeix-Raviart type nonconforming finite element methods are considered for solving the second order variational inequality with displacement obstacle. The convergence analysis is presented and the optimal order error estimates are obtained under the hypothesis of the finite length of the free boundary. The ionization of Rydberg hydrogen atoms near a metal surface at different scaled energies above the classical saddle point
energy has been discussed by using the semiclassical method. The results show that the atoms ionize by emitting a train of
electron pulses. In order to reveal the chaotic and escape dynamical properties of this system in detail, the sensitive dependence
of the ionization rate upon the scaled energy is discussed. As the scaled energy is close to the saddle point energy, the
ionization process of the hydrogen atom is nearly the same as the case of hydrogen atom in an electric field. There is only
a single pulse of electrons, with an exponentially decaying tail. With the increase of the scaled energy, the ionization rates
are similar to the case of the hydrogen atom in parallel electric and magnetic field, a series of electron pulses appear in
the ionization process. This is caused by classical chaos, which occurs for the metal surface. Our studies also suggest that
the metal surface can play the role of both the electric and the magnetic fields. Our theoretical analysis will be useful
for guiding experimental studies of the ionization of atoms near the metal surface. 相似文献

We consider deformations in ℝ3 of an infinite linear chain of atoms where each atom interacts with all others through a two-body potential. We compute the
effect of an external force applied to the chain. At equilibrium, the positions of the particles satisfy an Euler–Lagrange
equation. For large classes of potentials, we prove that every solution is well approximated by the solution of a continuous
model when applied forces and displacements of the atoms are small. We establish an error estimate between the discrete and
the continuous solution based on a Harnack lemma of independent interest. Finally we apply our results to some Lennard-Jones

A class of semismooth Newton methods for unilaterally constrained variational problems modeling cracks under a nonpenetration condition is introduced and investigated. On the continuous level, a penalization technique is applied that allows to argue generalized differentiability of the nonlinear mapping associated to its first‐order optimality characterization. It is shown that the corresponding semismooth Newton method converges locally superlinearly. For the discrete version of the problem, fast local as well as global and monotonous convergence of a discrete semismooth Newton method are proved.
