We develop a closed queueing network model for flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs), where parts routing follows a probabilistic shortest-queue (PSQ) scheme, i.e. parts are routed to the shortest queue (or the most empty station) with the highest probability. We allow limited local buffer at each work station. We prove that with the PSQ routing, the Markovian queue-length process satisfies time reversibility and has a product-form equilibrium distribution. An algorithm is developed to compute the solutions to the model. The model can be used as a performance evaluation tool to study FMSs.  相似文献

The periodic capacitated arc routing problem (PCARP) is a challenging general model with important applications. The PCARP has two hierarchical optimization objectives: a primary objective of minimizing the number of vehicles (Fv) and a secondary objective of minimizing the total cost (Fc). In this paper, we propose an effective two phased hybrid local search (HLS) algorithm for the PCARP. The first phase makes a particular effort to optimize the primary objective while the second phase seeks to further optimize both objectives by using the resulting number of vehicles of the first phase as an upper bound to prune the search space. For both phases, combined local search heuristics are devised to ensure an effective exploration of the search space. Experimental results on 63 benchmark instances demonstrate that HLS performs remarkably well both in terms of computational efficiency and solution quality. In particular, HLS discovers 44 improved best known values (new upper bounds) for the total cost objective Fc while attaining all the known optimal values regarding the objective of the number of vehicles Fv. To our knowledge, this is the first PCARP algorithm reaching such a performance. Key components of HLS are analyzed to better understand their contributions to the overall performance.  相似文献

This paper aims to provide a comprehensive review of the school bus routing problem (SBRP). SBRP seeks to plan an efficient schedule for a fleet of school buses where each bus picks up students from various bus stops and delivers them to their designated schools while satisfying various constraints such as the maximum capacity of a bus, the maximum riding time of a student in a bus, and the time window of a school. This class of problem consists of different sub-problems involving data preparation, bus stop selection, bus route generation, school bell time adjustment, and bus scheduling. In this paper, the various assumptions, constraints, and solution methods used in the literature on SBRP are summarized. A list of issues requiring further research is also presented.  相似文献

The Differentiated Services architecture is a scalable solution to provide differentiated Quality of Service. In this paper, we address the network load balancing optimization of such networks based on bandwidth differentiation between two services. We define the optimization problem as an Integer Programming model and propose a heuristic algorithm based on GRASP with Path Relinking. We present computational results showing that (i) good quality solutions can be computed and (ii) proper load balancing can efficiently obtain service differentiation.  相似文献

In this study we introduce a routing problem with multiple use of a single vehicle and service time in demand points (clients) with the aim of minimizing the sum of clients waiting time to receive service. This problem is relevant in the distribution of aid, in disaster stricken communities, in the recollection and/or delivery of perishable goods and personnel transportation, among other situations, where reaching clients to perform service, fast and fair, is a priority. We consider vehicle capacity and travel distance constraints which force multiple use of the vehicle in the planning horizon. Channel routing is a vital task in the layout design of VLSI circuits. Multiterminal channel routing is different from two-terminal one. While the later is quite understood, the former still poses the difficulty. In this paper, we investigate the multiterminal channel routing problem in a hexagonal model, whose grid is composed of horizontal tracks, right tracks (with slope +60°), and left tracks (with slope −60°). We present an efficient algorithm for routing multiterminal nets on a channel of width d + 3, where d is the problem density. Furthermore, we can wire the layout produced by the router using four layers and there are no overlaps among different layers. This improves the previous known results [15, 19].  相似文献

Splitting loads such that the delivery of certain loads is completed in multiple trips rather than one trip has been shown to have benefit for both the classic Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP) and the Pickup and Delivery Problem (PDP). However, the magnitude of the benefit may be affected by various problem characteristics. In this paper, we characterize those real world environments in which split loads are most likely to be beneficial. Based on practitioner interest, we determine how the benefit is affected by the mean load size and variance, number of origins relative to the number of destinations, the percentage of origin–destination pairs with a load requiring service, and the clustering of origin and destination locations. We find that the magnitude of benefit is greatest for load sizes just over one half vehicle capacity as these loads can not be combined without splitting, while they are the easiest to combine on a vehicle with splitting; increases as the number of loads sharing an origin or destination increases because there are more potential load combinations to split at each stop; and increases as the average distance from an origin to a destination increases because splitting loads reduces the trips from origins to destinations.  相似文献
