Synthetic organic pigments are widely used in modern and contemporary works of art. They have been examined by a variety of techniques including spectroscopic methods such as Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman, and X‐ray powder diffraction as well as chromatographic or mass spectrometric techniques such as pyrolysis‐gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and laser desorption ionization mass spectrometry (LDI–MS). Often, a combination of techniques has been used to examine these pigments. This paper describes use of Raman spectroscopy to create a database of colorants including two pigments not previously reported, PO1 and PO2. Then, using Raman spectroscopy in combination with LDI–MS, samples from modern works of art by artists including Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman, and José de Rivera were examined in order to identify the pigments present. One finding was that Rothko used a variety of red pigments over the course of his career including PR11 which has not been previously reported in artwork, and PO2 found with its positional isomer PR1. In recent publications, we have defined complexes of differential forms on analytic spaces which are resolutions of the constant sheaf. These complexes were used to prove the existence of a mixed Hodge structure on the cohomology of analytic spaces which possess kählerian hypercoverings, in particular, projective algebraic varieties. We define an exterior product on these forms, which induces the cup product on the cohomology of analytic spaces. The main difficulty is to prove that this exterior product is functorial with respect to morphisms of analytic spaces. This exterior product can be used to prove that the cup product is compatible with the mixed Hodge structure on the cohomology. 相似文献

We are interested in nonlocal eikonal equations describing the evolution of interfaces moving with a nonlocal, non-monotone velocity. For these equations, only the existence of global-in-time weak solutions is available in some particular cases. In this paper, we propose a new approach for proving uniqueness of the solution when the front is expanding. This approach simplifies and extends existing results for dislocation dynamics. It also provides the first uniqueness result for a Fitzhugh-Nagumo system. The key ingredients are some new perimeter estimates for the evolving fronts as well as some uniform interior cone property for these fronts. 相似文献

Animal venoms and toxins are now recognized as major sources of bioactive molecules that may be tomorrow's new drug leads. Their complexity and their potential as drug sources have been demonstrated by application of modern analytical technologies, which have revealed venoms to be vast peptide combinatorial libraries. Structural as well as pharmacological diversity is immense, and mass spectrometry is now one of the major investigative tools for the structural investigation of venom components. Recent advances in its use in the study of venom and toxins are reviewed. The application of mass spectrometry techniques to peptide toxin sequence determination by de novo sequencing is discussed in detail, in the light of the search for novel analgesic drugs. We also present the combined application of LC-MALDI separation with mass fingerprinting and ISD fragmentation for the determination of structural and pharmacological classes of peptides in complex spider venoms. This approach now serves as the basis for the full investigation of complex spider venom proteomes, in combination with cDNA analysis. 相似文献

We investigate the origins of ‘de Vries-like’ liquid crystalline behaviour by introducing an ethynyl spacer in the core of the tricarbosilane-terminated 5-phenylpyrimidine mesogens QL16-6 and QL17-6. The rationale for this structural change is based on the assumption that an ethynyl spacer would create more free volume in the core sub-layer and therefore decrease the orientational order parameter S2 in the SmA phase. The tricarbosilane-terminated mesogens WL41-5 and WL42-6 with a 5-(phenylethynyl)pyrimidine core in either a normal or inverted orientation were synthesised, and their mesomorphic and ‘de Vries-like’ properties characterised using polarised optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, birefringence measurements, small–angle (SAXS) and 2D X-ray scattering. Reduction factors R derived from SAXS and optical tilt angle measurements suggest that neither WL41-5 (R = 0.49) nor WL42-6 (R = 0.80) exhibit ‘de Vries-like’ properties. The S2(T) profiles show an increase in orientational order with decreasing temperature and a sharp discontinuity at the SmA-SmC transition, which is consistent with ‘de Vries-like’ behaviour. However, the Leff(T) profiles suggest an increase in interdigitation that reduces the positive effect of increasing S2 in compensating for the molecular tilt. 相似文献

Computational drug design is increasingly becoming important with new and unforeseen diseases like COVID-19. In this study, we present a new computational de novo drug design and repurposing method and applied it to find plausible drug candidates for the receptor binding domain (RBD) of SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19). Our study comprises three steps: atom-by-atom generation of new molecules around a receptor, structural similarity mapping to existing approved and investigational drugs, and validation of their binding strengths to the viral spike proteins based on rigorous all-atom, explicit-water well-tempered metadynamics free energy calculations. By choosing the receptor binding domain of the viral spike protein, we showed that some of our new molecules and some of the repurposable drugs have stronger binding to RBD than hACE2. To validate our approach, we also calculated the free energy of hACE2 and RBD, and found it to be in an excellent agreement with experiments. These pool of drugs will allow strategic repurposing against COVID-19 for a particular prevailing conditions. 相似文献

The de novo synthesis of piperidine nucleosides from our homologating agent 5,6-dihydro-1,4-dithiin is herein reported. The structure and conformation of nucleosides were conceived to faithfully resemble the well-known nucleoside drugs Immucillins H and A in their bioactive conformation. NMR analysis of the synthesized compounds confirmed that they adopt an iminosugar conformation bearing the nucleobases and the hydroxyl groups in the appropriate orientation. 相似文献

This study addresses the question of how polymer phase separation takes place during polymerization reactions within composite latex particles. Experiments resulted in acrylic/styrene latices with two-phase structures that were analyzed via TEM. Those that resulted from the use of semi-batch reactions allowed us to observe domains that likely did not undergo phase rearrangement after they were formed within the particles. We computed the critical size of the phase-separated domains by assuming that the nucleation and growth mechanism applied to such experiments. We also computed how much these domains would increase in size by subsequent polymerization within those domains. Comparisons of predicted and experimental domain sizes and distributions showed quite reasonable agreement. The domains formed in latex particles of about 350 nm were in the 30–50-nm range. Despite the close agreement between theory and experiment, we are not convinced that phase separation occurs by nucleation and growth, as it appears to us that given the relative rates of reaction and polymer diffusion, phase separation events will often be forced to occur within the spinodal region of the phase diagram.
