This paper develops truncated Newton methods as an appropriate tool for nonlinear inverse problems which are ill-posed in the sense of Hadamard. In each Newton step an approximate solution for the linearized problem is computed with the conjugate gradient method as an inner iteration. The conjugate gradient iteration is terminated when the residual has been reduced to a prescribed percentage. Under certain assumptions on the nonlinear operator it is shown that the algorithm converges and is stable if the discrepancy principle is used to terminate the outer iteration. These assumptions are fulfilled, e.g., for the inverse problem of identifying the diffusion coefficient in a parabolic differential equation from distributed data. 相似文献

We study the potential theory of a large class of infinite dimensional Lévy processes, including Brownian motion on abstract Wiener spaces. The key result is the construction of compact Lyapunov functions, i.e., excessive functions with compact level sets. Then many techniques from classical potential theory carry over to this infinite dimensional setting. Thus a number of potential theoretic properties and principles can be proved, answering long standing open problems even for the Brownian motion on abstract Wiener space, as, e.g., formulated by R. Carmona in 1980. In particular, we prove the analog of the known result, that the Cameron-Martin space is polar, in the Lévy case and apply the technique of controlled convergence to solve the Dirichlet problem with general (not necessarily continuous) boundary data. 相似文献

In this paper we introduce a convergence concept for closed convex subsets of a finite-dimensional normed vector space. This convergence is called C-convergence. It is defined by appropriate notions of upper and lower limits. We compare this convergence with the well-known Painlevé-Kuratowski convergence and with scalar convergence. In fact, we show that a sequence (An)n∈NC-converges to A if and only if the corresponding support functions converge pointwise, except at relative boundary points of the domain of the support function of A, to the support function of A. 相似文献

Verma introduced a system of nonlinear variational inequalities and proposed projection methods to solve it. This system reduces to a variational inequality problem under certain conditions. So, at least in form, it can be regarded as a extension of a variational inequality problem. In this note, we show that solving this system coincides exactly with solving a variational inequality problem. This paper deals with the inverse scattering problems for the Helmholtz equation with impedance boundary condition. It aims at reconstructing the unknown impedance coefficient from the knowledge of scattered wave fields. We generalize the concept of classic solution (CS) to optimal solution (OS) by a nonlinear optimization problem. Then, based on potential theory, we establish an inversion procedure to get the approximation of OS which is defined as the regularized solution (RS) in this paper. We develop a mathematical model for hysteretic two-phase flow (of oil and water) in waterwet porous media. To account for relative permeability hysteresis, an irreversible trapping-coalescence process is described. According to this process, oil ganglia are created (during imbibition) and released (during drainage) at different rates, leading to history-dependent saturations of trapped and connected oil. As a result, the relative permeability to oil, modelled as a unique function of the connected oil saturation, is subject to saturation history. A saturation history is reflected by history parameters, that is by both the saturation state (of connected and trapped oil) at the most recent flow reversal and the most recent water saturation at which the flow was a primary drainage. Disregarding capillary diffusion, the flow is described by a hyperbolic equation with the connected oil saturation as unknown. This equation contains functional relationships which depend on the flow mode (drainage or imbibition) and the history parameters. The solution consists of continuous waves (expansion waves and constant states), shock waves (possibly connecting different modes) and stationary discontinuities (connecting different saturation histories). The entropy condition for travelling waves is generalized to include admissible shock waves which coincide with flow reversals. It turns out that saturation history generally has a strong influence on both the type and the speed of the waves from which the solution is constructed. 相似文献

A conservative two‐grid finite element scheme is presented for the two‐dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation. One Newton iteration is applied on the fine grid to linearize the fully discrete problem using the coarse‐grid solution as the initial guess. Moreover, error estimates are conducted for the two‐grid method. It is shown that the coarse space can be extremely coarse, with no loss in the order of accuracy, and still achieve the asymptotically optimal approximation as long as the mesh sizes satisfy in the two‐grid method. Applications in robust control problems and shape evolution motivate the mathematical interest in control problems whose states are compact (possibly non-convex) sets rather than vectors. This leads to evolutions in a basic set which can be supplied with a metric (like the well-established Pompeiu–Hausdorff distance), but it does not have an obvious linear structure. This article extends differential inclusions with state constraints to compact-valued states in a separable Hilbert space H. The focus is on sufficient conditions such that a given constraint set (of compact subsets) is viable a.k.a. weakly invariant. Our main result extends the tangential criterion in the well-known viability theorem (usually for differential inclusions in a vector space) to the metric space of non-empty compact subsets of H. 相似文献
