Weaker conditions for the convergence of Newton’s method

Newton’s method is often used for solving nonlinear equations. In this paper, we show that Newton’s method converges under weaker convergence criteria than those given in earlier studies, such as Argyros (2004) [2, p. 387], Argyros and Hilout (2010)[11, p. 12], Argyros et al. (2011) [12, p. 26], Ortega and Rheinboldt (1970) [26, p. 421], Potra and Pták (1984) [36, p. 22]. These new results are illustrated by several numerical examples, for which the older convergence criteria do not hold but for which our weaker convergence criteria are satisfied.     

A robust Kantorovich’s theorem on the inexact Newton method with relative residual error tolerance

We prove that under semi-local assumptions, the inexact Newton method with a fixed   relative residual error tolerance converges Q$Q$-linearly to a zero of the nonlinear operator under consideration. Using this result we show that the Newton method for minimizing a self-concordant function or to find a zero of an analytic function can be implemented with a fixed relative residual error tolerance.

ON GRAPH MEASURES IN BANACH SPACES AND DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL SPECTRA OF MULTIDIMENSIONAL TRANSPORT EQUATION

In this paper,we define new measures called respectively graph measure of noncompactness and graph measure of weak noncompactness.Moreover,we apply the obtained results to discuss the incidence of some perturbation results realized in [2] on the behavior of essential spectra of such closed densely defined linear operators on Banach spaces.These results are exploited to investigate the essential spectra of a multidimensional neutron transport operator on L1 spaces.     

A new class of bilevel generalized mixed equilibrium problems in Banach spaces

A new class of bilevel generalized mixed equilibrium problems involving set-valued mappings is introduced and studied in a real Banach space. By using the auxiliary principle technique, new iterative algorithms for solving the generalized mixed equilibrium problems and bilevel generalized mixed equilibrium problems involving set-valued mappings are suggested and analyzed. Existence of solutions and strong convergence of the iterative sequences generated by the algorithms are proved under quite mild conditions. The behavior of the solution set of the generalized mixed equilibrium problems and bilevel generalized mixed equilibrium problems is also discussed. These results are new and generalize some recent results in this field.
