Quadratic Störmer‐type methods for the solution of the Boussinesq equation by the method of lines

We study the numerical treatment of Boussinesq PDE equation using the method of lines. For the space discretization, we choose either classical finite differences or Fourier pseudospectral methods. Both cases result in a system of second‐order ordinary differential equations (ODEs) that is quadratic. In order to take advantage of this special feature, we choose to solve the ODE system using a new type of hybrid Numerov method specially constructed for such problems. Other efficient ODE solvers taken from the literature are used to solve the system of ODEs as well. By taking all the combinations of space discretization methods and ODE solvers, we discuss the stability and accuracy features revealed from the numerical tests. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Dynamics of coupled systems

A survey in the form of a review of the author’s research results in the area of dynamics of coupled rotations and coupled systems is presented. The theorem on the existence of a trigger of the coupled singularities and the separatrix in the form of the number eight is presented with a few examples of coupled rotations of the simple systems with debalances. Also, a survey of models and dynamics of coupled systems composed of a number of deformable bodies (plates, beams or belts) with different properties of materials and discrete layer properties is presented and mathematically described. The constitutive stress–strain relations for materials of the coupled sandwich structure elements are presented for different properties: elastic, viscoelastic and creeping. The characteristic modes of the coupled system vibrations are obtained and analyzed for different kinds of materials and structure composition. The visualization of the characteristic numbers and modes and eigenamplitude forms are presented. Structural analysis of sandwich structure vibrations is done.     

Existence of three positive solutions for some second-order m-point boundary value problems

By using fixed-point theorems, some new results for multiplicity of positive solutions for some second order m-point boundary value problems are obtained.The associated Green＇s function of these problems are also given.

研究了一类二阶非线性摄动微分方程解的振动性与渐近性,建立了四个新的振动性与渐近性定理,推广和改进了已知的一些结果.     

一类四阶非线性抛物型方程的初边值问题

本文证明一类四阶非线性抛物型方程初边值问题整体广义解的存在性和唯一性,以及解的渐近性质,最后给出解爆破的充分条件.     

P2-阶子群X-ss-半置换的有限群

设G是有限群,X是G的一个非空子集,子群H称为在G中X-ss-半置换,若H在G中有补充子群T,对于T的任意Sylowp-子群P,只要(p,|H|)=1,就存在x∈X使得HP^x=P^xH。通过对p²-阶子群的X-ss-半置换性研究,得到了p-幂零群的新判断。     

The empirical distribution function and strong laws for functions of order statistics of uniform spacings

Let N points be arbitrarily chosen on the circle with unit circumference, and order them clockwise. The uniform mth order spacings are then defined as the clockwise distances between any pair of points having m − 1 other points in between. A Glivenko-Cantelli theorem and nonlinear almost sure bounds for the empirical distribution function based on these uniform spacings are derived. The parameter m is allowed to increase with N to infinity. Applications to linear combinations of functions of mth order spacings are given.     

Ranking fuzzy numbers with maximizing set and minimizing set

Up to now, these are five methods of ranking n fuzzy numbers in order, but these methods contain some confusions and occasionally conflict with intuition. This paper introduces the concept of maximizing set and minimizing set to decide the ordering value of each fuzzy number and uses these values to determine the order of the n fuzzy numbers. In addition, we give a method for calculating the ordering value of each fuzzy number with triangular, trapezoidal, and two-sided drum-like shaped membership functions.     

A note on testing symmetry with estimated parameters

A simple yet general technique is presented for the problem of assessing symmetry about an unknown point with linear rank statistics.
