Operating costs for the production of Baker’s yeast from hydrolyzed permeate from the ultrafiltration of cottage cheese whey were calculated as a function of the level of lactose conversion in the immobilized lactase reactor. These costs were calculated for the case of 90% conversion of lactose in the reactor and compared to those that result when running the reactor at lower conversions with recycle of unreacted lactose. Total operating costs were estimated by combining individual operating costs for the immobilized enzyme reactor, costs associated with processing a lactose recycle stream, and energy costs associated with cooling the reactor feed stream and sterilizing the hydrolysate stream. It was determined that operating costs are minimized at about 9.9 ¢/lb. of lactose when the reactor is run at approx. 72% conversion. This represents a savings of 2.4 ¢/lb. of lactose over the case of a once-through 90% conversion of lactose in the reactor.  相似文献

Summary Given the mobile and the stationary phase and values for the physical parameters such as temperature and pH, a separation can be optimized by varying the so-calledchromatographic parameters. These include the column dimensions, particle size, operating conditions (e.g. flow rate, attenuation) and instrumentation (e.g. detector cell, time constant). Optimization of the chromatographic parameters implies finding the best possible set of values, which we define as yielding (i) sufficient separation and (ii) sufficient sensitivity in (iii) the shortest possible time. Finding the best possible conditions (the global optimum) is very difficult for chromatographers in practice.An expert system is described that allows chromatographic optimization to be performed for isocratic separations. An initial chromatogram is required to consult the system. In return, the system provides a complete set of chromatographic parameters, which represents the global optimum within the limits set by the required resolution and signal-to-noise ratio specified by the user. The tolerated flow and pressure ranges, the volume of the available detector cells and the time constant of the detection system are constraints during the optimization. A separate module of the system concerns the sample preparation for pharmaceutical formulations in solid dosages and aqueous solutions.Prototype expert systems have been successfully implemented in the expert-system shell Knowledge Craft on a MicroVAX workstation.  相似文献

A series of transition metal (II/III) complexes containing organometallic Schiff base ligand (H2L) had been synthesized and characterized by using elemental analysis (C, H, N, M), molar conductivity, IR, UV–Vis, 1H NMR and mass spectral analysis. Also, their TG and DTG behaviors were investigated. The ligand was prepared by condensation of 4-aminosalicylic acid with 2-acetylferrocene in 1:1 M ratio. The data of elemental analysis indicated that the prepared complexes were synthesized also in a 1:1 M ratio. The ligand behaved as neutral bidentate ligand that coordinated to metal ions through protonated O-phenolic and protonated carboxylic-OH groups. All complexes had octahedral structure. DFT calculations for H2L ligand were determined with some parameters such as HOMO-LUMO energy gab, electronegativity and chemical hardness–softness. Antimicrobial activity of both H2L Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes was tested against different strains of bacteria and fungi species. Furthermore, all compounds had been screened for their anticancer activities against breast cancer (MCF-7) cell line. [Cu(H2L)(H2O)2Cl2]·2H2O complex had the lowest IC50 value = 47.3 µg/mL. For determining the more effective and probable binding mode between the H2L ligand, Co(II) and Zn(II) complexes with different active sites of 4K3V, 2YLB and 3DJD receptors, so molecular docking studies were investigated.  相似文献

Cd1?xZnxS/ZnS core/shell-structured quantum dot (QD)-doped ferroelectric liquid crystal (FLC) Felix 17/000 has been investigated in the present study. In the SmC* phase, the effect of QD on the dielectric and electro-optical properties of FLC has been studied as a function of dopant concentration. A substantial change in the different parameters like tilt angle, spontaneous polarisation, response time and relative permittivity has been observed for the composite system. Nearly two times faster response of the composite system with lower operating voltage is one of the promising results of the present study. The faster optical response along with the decreased value of spontaneous polarisation can be utilised in low power consumption liquid crystal displays.  相似文献

The paper proposes a new approach to study a general class of ruin-related quantities in the context of a renewal risk model. While the classical approaches in Sparre Andersen models have their own merits, the approach presented in this paper has its advantages from the following perspectives. (1) The underlying surplus process has the flexibility to reflect a broad range of scenarios for surplus growth including dividend policies and interest returns. (2) The solution method provides a general framework to unify a great variety of existing ruin-related quantities such as Gerber–Shiu functions and the expected present value of dividends paid up to ruin, and facilitates derivations of new ruin-related quantities such as the expected present value of total claim costs up to ruin, etc. In the end, many specific examples are explored to demonstrate its application in renewal risk models.  相似文献

Cardiothoracic surgery planning involves different resourcessuch as operating theatre (OT) time, medium care beds, intensivecare beds and nursing staff. Within cardiothoracic surgery differentcategories of patients can be distinguished with respect totheir requirements of resources. The mix of patients is, therefore,an important aspect of decision making for the hospital to managethe use of these resources. A master OT schedule is used atthe tactical level of planning for deriving the weekly OT plan.It defines for each day of a week the number of OT hours availableand the number of patients operated from each patient category.We develop a model for this tactical level planning problem,the core of which is a mixed integer linear program. The modelis used to evaluate scenarios for surgery planning at tacticalas well as strategic levels, demonstrating the potential ofinteger programming for providing recommendations for change.  相似文献
