Bayesian Prediction Analysis for Growth Curve Model Using Noninformative Priors

We apply a Bayesian approach to the problem of prediction in an unbalanced growth curve model using noninformative priors. Due to the complexity of the model, no analytic forms of the predictive densities are available. We propose both approximations and a prediction-oriented Metropolis-Hastings sampling algorithm for two types of prediction, namely the prediction of future observations for a new subject and the prediction of future values for a partially observed subject. They are illustrated and compared through real data and simulation studies. Two of the approximations compare favorably with the approximation in Fearn (1975, Biometrika, 62, 89–100) and are very comparable to the more accurate Rao-Blackwellization from Metropolis-Hastings sampling algorithm.     

Enumeration of inequivalent irreducible Goppa codes

We consider irreducible Goppa codes over F_q of length qⁿ defined by polynomials of degree r, where q is a prime power and n,r are arbitrary positive integers. We obtain an upper bound on the number of such codes.     

Fenchel duality, Fitzpatrick functions and the extension of firmly nonexpansive mappings

Recently, S. Reich and S. Simons provided a novel proof of the Kirszbraun-Valentine extension theorem using Fenchel duality and Fitzpatrick functions. In the same spirit, we provide a new proof of an extension result for firmly nonexpansive mappings with an optimally localized range.

     

Semiconvergence in distribution of random closed sets with application to random optimization problems

The paper considers upper semicontinuous behavior in distribution of sequences of random closed sets. Semiconvergence in distribution will be described via convergence in distribution of random variables with values in a suitable topological space. Convergence statements for suitable functions of random sets are proved and the results are employed to derive stability statements for random optimization problems where the objective function and the constraint set are approximated simultaneously. 引进了随机环境中多物种分枝随机游动的一般模型.在分枝过程非灭绝的情况下,讨论了系统的状态分类,得到了系统暂留及强常返的充要条件是存在k个定义在整数集上的函数分别满足某种性质.最后给出了系统强暂留的充分条件.     

Hilbert Space of Probability Density Functions Based on Aitchison Geometry

The set of probability functions is a convex subset of L1 and it does not have a linear space structure when using ordinary sum and multiplication by real constants. Moreover, difficulties arise when dealing with distances between densities. The crucial point is that usual distances are not invariant under relevant transformations of densities. To overcome these limitations, Aitchison＇s ideas on compositional data analysis are used, generalizing perturbation and power transformation, as well as the Aitchison inner product, to operations on probability density functions with support on a finite interval. With these operations at hand, it is shown that the set of bounded probability density functions on finite intervals is a pre-Hilbert space. A Hilbert space of densities, whose logarithm is square-integrable, is obtained as the natural completion of the pre-Hilbert space.     

Little Grothendieck's theorem for sublinear operators

Let SB(X,Y) be the set of the bounded sublinear operators from a Banach space X into a Banach lattice Y. Consider π₂(X,Y) the set of 2-summing sublinear operators. We study in this paper a variation of Grothendieck's theorem in the sublinear operators case. We prove under some conditions that every operator in SB(C(K),H) is in π₂(C(K),H) for any compact K and any Hilbert H. In the noncommutative case the problem is still open.     

Existence of two solutions of m-point boundary value problem for second order dynamic equations on time scales

In this paper, by means of a new twin fixed-point theorem in a cone, the existence of at least two positive solutions of m-point boundary value problem for second order dynamic equations on time scales is considered.
