We compare periodic orbits of circle rotations with their counterparts for interval maps. We prove that they are conjugate via a map of modality larger by at most 2 than the modality of the interval map. The proof is based on observation of trips of inhabitants of the Green Islands in the Black Sea.

Recent mathematical investigations have shown that under very general conditions, exponential mixing implies the Bernoulli property. As a concrete example of statistical mechanics that are exponentially mixing we consider the Bernoulli shift dynamics by Chebyshev maps of arbitrary order N2, which maximizes Tsallis q=3 entropy rather than the ordinary q=1 Boltzmann-Gibbs entropy. Such an information shift dynamics may be relevant in a pre-universe before ordinary space-time is created. We discuss symmetry properties of the coupled Chebyshev systems, which are different for even and odd N. We show that the value of the fine structure constant αel=1/137 is distinguished as a coupling constant in this context, leading to uncorrelated behaviour in the spatial direction of the corresponding coupled map lattice for N=3.  相似文献

In vector optimization, the topological properties of the set of efficient solutions are of interest. Several authors have studied this topic for point-valued functions. In this paper, we study the connectedness of the efficient solution sets in convex vector optimization for set-valued maps in normed spaces.The author would like to thank Professor W. T. A result of Balas and Yu (1989) states that the number of maximal independent sets of a graph G is at most p+1, where is the number of pairs of vertices in G at distance 2, and p is the cardinality of a maximum induced matching in G. In this paper, we give an analogue of this result for hypergraphs and, more generally, for subsets of vectors in the product of n lattices =1××n, where the notion of an induced matching in G is replaced by a certain binary tree each internal node of which is mapped into . We show that our bounds may be nearly sharp for arbitrarily large hypergraphs and lattices. As an application, we prove that the number of maximal infeasible vectors x=1××n for a system of polymatroid inequalities does not exceed max{Q,logt/c(2Q,)}, where is the number of minimal feasible vectors for the system, , , and c(,) is the unique positive root of the equation 2c(c/log–1)=1. This bound is nearly sharp for the Boolean case ={0,1}n, and it allows for the efficient generation of all minimal feasible sets to a given system of polymatroid inequalities with quasi-polynomially bounded right-hand sides . We extend a few well-known results about orientation preserving homeomorphisms of the circle to orientation preserving circle maps, allowing even an infinite number of discontinuities. We define a set-valued map associated to the lift by filling the gaps in the graph, that shares many properties with continuous functions. Using elementary set-valued analysis, we prove existence and uniqueness of the rotation number, periodic limit orbit in the case when the latter is rational, and Cantor structure of the unique limit set when the rotation number is irrational. Moreover, the rotation number is found to be continuous with respect to the set-valued extension if we endow the space of such maps with the Haussdorff topology on the graph. For increasing continuous families of such maps, the set of parameter values where the rotation number is irrational is a Cantor set (up to a countable number of points).  相似文献
