ABSTRACT

This research has been carried out in two stages and has two main objectives. The first aim of the study is to develop a Likert-type scale which is used to determine the attitudes towards the use of mathematics in real life. The second aim is to examine the attitudes of high school students about the use of mathematics in real life according to different variables used in the developed scale. The research was carried out according to the correlational research method, and the participants comprise the sample of 340 and 356 students for the scale development and implementation stages of the study, respectively. As a result of the research, a structure consisting of 23 items and three sub-factors was determined for the scale. In the second stage of the study, it was observed that the student attitudes were at the level corresponding to the ‘undecided’ option of the scale, and they differed significantly according to gender and grade level variables. In addition, it was found that there was a positive and significant relationship between the students’ attitudes towards the use of mathematics and their mathematics achievement.  相似文献

为适应当前复合型人才培养需求和提高学生自主学习能力和创新意识,在对大学一年级新生进行无机化学教学时需坚持以学生为主体的教学理念,并努力同时提高他们的思想政治素质、理论联系实际能力和科学研究素养。为此,提出“一体三翼”教学模式。然而,大多数工科院校无机化学课程的授课学时有所压缩,这对任课教师来讲是一种巨大挑战。通过“线上-线下”混合式教学解决学时不足问题,并通过学生课程参与度、学生学习成绩及教学反思等形式检验“一体三翼”教学模式的教学实践成效。  相似文献

Employing data from the National Center of Educational Statistics' High School Longitudinal Study and utilizing critical race theory and intersectionality as theoretical frameworks, this article interrogates the relationship between mathematics identity and math success for a nationwide sample of Black secondary school students. More specifically, hierarchical regression modeling is employed to examine the relative impact of math identity, demographic variables, and school/parent social capital variables on the math grade point averages of this sample. The article ends with a discussion of specific steps for teaching mathematics that put the identity of those from traditionally marginalized communities at the center of mathematics instruction. Thus making experiences, histories, culture, and abilities essential elements of students' learning, that are to be supported and built upon.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate Hispanic students’ mathematics achievement growth rate in Inclusive science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) high schools compared to Hispanic students’ mathematics achievement growth rate in traditional public schools. Twenty-eight schools, 14 of which were Texas STEM (T-STEM) academies and 14 of which were matched non-STEM schools, were included in this study. A hierarchical linear modelling method was conducted. The result of the present study revealed that there was no difference in Hispanic students’ mathematics achievement growth rate in T-STEM academies compared to Hispanic students’ mathematics achievement growth rate in comparison schools. However, in terms of gender, the results indicated that female Hispanic students in T-STEM academies outperformed female Hispanic students in comparison schools in their mathematics growth rate.  相似文献

In this work, students’ thinking modes and representation types in linear algebra are investigated through statistical implicative analysis techniques. Specifically, our research question considers the implicative relationships between students’ thinking modes and representation types of linear algebra. The participants were 74 undergraduate linear algebra students enrolled in the department of mathematics education of a government university located in western Turkey. The data was collected using six paper-and-pencil tasks, relating to a context of linear equations, matrix algebra, linear combination, span, linear independency–dependency and basis. A document analysis technique was used to analyze the data within a theoretical lens of thinking modes and representation types. To delineate similarity diagrams, hierarchical trees, and implicative models (which will be detailed in the paper), an R version of Cohesion Hierarchical Implicative Classification software was used. According to the results, students’ analytic structural thinking modes on linear combination and span and linear independency significantly imply the use of algebraic and abstract representations. The results also confirm that the notions of linear combination and span and linear dependency/independency are core elements for theoretical thinking and are needed for learning linear algebra.  相似文献
