Characterisations of function spaces of generalised smoothness

We investigate function spaces of generalised smoothness of Besov and Triebel–Lizorkin type. Equivalent quasi-norms in terms of maximal functions and local means are given. An atomic decomposition theorem for this type of spaces is proved. Mathematics Subject Classification (2000) 46E35     

Solutions in Sobolev spaces of vector refinement equations with a general dilation matrix

In this paper, we present a necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of solutions in a Sobolev space W_p^k(ℝ^s) (1≤p≤∞) to a vector refinement equation with a general dilation matrix. The criterion is constructive and can be implemented. Rate of convergence of vector cascade algorithms in a Sobolev space W_p^k(ℝ^s) will be investigated. When the dilation matrix is isotropic, a characterization will be given for the L_p (1≤p≤∞) critical smoothness exponent of a refinable function vector without the assumption of stability on the refinable function vector. As a consequence, we show that if a compactly supported function vector φ∈L_p(ℝ^s) (φ∈C(ℝ^s) when p=∞) satisfies a refinement equation with a finitely supported matrix mask, then all the components of φ must belong to a Lipschitz space Lip(ν,L_p(ℝ^s)) for some ν>0. This paper generalizes the results in R.Q. Jia, K.S. Lau and D.X. Zhou (J. Fourier Anal. Appl. 7 (2001) 143–167) in the univariate setting to the multivariate setting. The Role of a Specific Response of Media in the Vavilov-Cherenkov Effect

It is shown that the condition υ > υ_p (ω), which is necessary in order to trigger the Vavilov-Cherenkov effect, determines the interval of radiated frequencies and it alone cannot establish a strong restriction to the velocity of the particle. It is exhibited that it is possible to define a general lower bound for the velocity of the particle, which does not depend on the frequency when both, a specific response of the medium is taken into account and the mentioned condition is considered. The minimum value of the phase velocity of light in the medium determines the existence of such general lower bound.     

Time variation of the electromagnetic transfer function of the earth estimated by using wavelet transform

In order to accurately estimate the geomagnetic transfer functions in the area of the volcano Mt. Iwate (IWT), we applied the interstation transfer function (ISTF) method to the three-component geomagnetic field data observed at Mt. Iwate station (IWT), using the Kakioka Magnetic Observatory, JMA (KAK) as remote reference station. Instead of the conventional Fourier transform, in which temporary transient noises badly degrade the accuracy of long term properties, continuous wavelet transform has been used. The accuracy of the results was as high as that of robust estimations of transfer functions obtained by the Fourier transform method. This would provide us with possibilities for routinely monitoring the transfer functions, without sophisticated statistical procedures, to detect changes in the underground electrical conductivity structure.     

Martin Boundaries of Elliptic Skew Products, Semismall Perturbations, and Fundamental Solutions of Parabolic Equations

We consider positive solutions of elliptic partial differential equations on non-compact domains of Riemannian manifolds. We explicitly determine Martin boundaries and Martin kernels for a class of elliptic equations in skew product form by exploiting and developing perturbation theory for elliptic equations and short/long-time estimates for fundamental solutions of parabolic equations.     

Calculated elastic constants of dilute alloys based on bcc metals

The elastic constants of dilute alloys based on bcc metals have been calculated using the Green’s function method obtaining explicit expressions for change in elastic constants in terms oft-matrix. The crystal impurity problem is discussed within an impurity model containing central and non-central force constant changes extended up to second neighbours of the impurity. The effect of volume change on elastic constants and a contribution from electron pressure term are considered. Numerical results for changes in three elastic moduli have been presented for a number of dilute alloys based on Mo, Nb, W, Ta and V.     

Tests of ordered hypotheses in linkage in heredity

The asymptotic null distribution of the likelihood ratio test for two cases of ordered hypotheses in a particular genetic model is considered. A simple iterative process is proposed in order to get the restricted estimates. It is shown that both tests have asymptotically a chi-bar squared distribution and the same size. A simulation study is also conducted in order to compare the usual unrestricted test with the corresponding one of ordered hypotheses. Finally, the results are extended to some special cases.     

Winning controllers and regions in competitive nonlinear dynamic games with two qualitative objectives and uncertain information

The Liapunov technique has been introduced in differential games in a sequence of works over the last decade. We discuss application of this technique to the interface between two competitive semi-games, each with different qualitative objective. The feedback information for controllers is provided from designed, analytically integrable state predictors with reduced dynamics, which considerably shortens the computing time. The case is illustrated on the scenario of target reaching before being intercepted, and intercepting before target is reached.Deceased.     

振动谱学研究中的光谱线型函数

本文讨论了在振动谱带计算拟合处理中的光谱线型函数问题,推导出适用于单道及多道拉曼光谱仪及色散型红外谱仪谱带线型公式。通过实验及拟合计算证实了它们的适用性并讨论了可能的误差源。理论计算和实验验证结果说明:在振动谱的谱带拟合计算中,应使用根据测谱条件计算求得的谱带线型函数,以保证拟合结果的可靠性。     

天然树脂局部结构的径向分布函数研究

本工作用x射线衍射技术分析计算了二种天然树脂的局部结构参数,由测得的衍射强度数据求出了它们的结构因子I(r)和径向分布函数RDF(r),并由此得到了分子链内临近原子和次临近原子平均间距、配位数和短程有序畴。
