Nonwandering set of points of skew-product maps with base having closed set of periodic points

The aim of the present paper is to study the structure of the nonwandering set of points Ω() for the skew-product maps of the unit square , (x,y)→(f(x),g(x,y)), with base f having closed set of periodic points. For every and every point (x,y) with x periodic of period p_x by f and y not chain recurrent of F^p_x|_Ix, where , we prove that (x,y)Ω(F). On the other hand we construct a map with an isolated fixed point x₀ of f and y₀Ω(F|_Ix0) such that (x₀,y₀)Ω(F₀).     

Fixed point property for Banach algebras associated to locally compact groups

In this paper we investigate when various Banach algebras associated to a locally compact group G have the weak or weak^∗ fixed point property for left reversible semigroups. We proved, for example, that if G is a separable locally compact group with a compact neighborhood of the identity invariant under inner automorphisms, then the Fourier-Stieltjes algebra of G has the weak^∗ fixed point property for left reversible semigroups if and only if G is compact. This generalizes a classical result of T.C. Lim for the case when G is the circle group T.     

A renorming in some Banach spaces with applications to fixed point theory

We consider a Banach space X endowed with a linear topology τ and a family of seminorms {Rk(⋅)} which satisfy some special conditions. We define an equivalent norm ?⋅? on X such that if C is a convex bounded closed subset of (X,?⋅?) which is τ-relatively sequentially compact, then every nonexpansive mapping T:C→C has a fixed point. As a consequence, we prove that, if G is a separable compact group, its Fourier-Stieltjes algebra B(G) can be renormed to satisfy the FPP. In case that G=T, we recover P.K. Lin's renorming in the sequence space ?₁. Moreover, we give new norms in ?₁ with the FPP, we find new classes of nonreflexive Banach spaces with the FPP and we give a sufficient condition so that a nonreflexive subspace of L₁(μ) can be renormed to have the FPP.     

Fixed point properties of semigroups of nonexpansive mappings

We prove that if H is a Hilbert space then the Schatten (trace) class operators on H has the weak^∗ fixed point property for left reversible semigroups. This answered positively a problem raised by A.T.-M. Lau. We also prove that if M is a finite von Neumann algebra then any nonempty bounded convex subset of the non-commutative L¹-space associated to M that is compact for the measure topology has the fixed point property for left reversible semigroups.

On consistency of stationary points of stochastic optimization problems in a Banach space

Recently, Balaji and Xu studied the consistency of stationary points, in the sense of the Clarke generalized gradient, for the sample average approximations to a one-stage stochastic optimization problem in a separable Banach space with separable dual. We present an alternative approach, showing that the restrictive assumptions that the dual space is separable and the Clarke generalized gradient is a (norm) upper semicontinuous and compact-valued multifunction can be dropped. For that purpose, we use two results having independent interest: a strong law of large numbers and a multivalued Komlós theorem in the dual to a separable Banach space, and a result on the weak* closedness of the expectation of a random weak* compact convex set.     

Functional inequalities for transient birth-death processes and their applications

We give a new diagram about uniform decay, empty essential spectrum and various functional inequalities, including Poincaré inequalities, super- and weak-Poincaré inequalities, for transient birth-death processes. This diagram is completely opposite to that in ergodic situation, and substantially points out the difference between transient birth-death processes and recurrent ones. The criterion for the empty essential spectrum is achieved. Some matching sufficient and necessary conditions for weak-Poincaré inequalities and super-Poincaré inequalities are also presented.     

Strong convergence of a new composite iterative method for equilibrium problems and fixed point problems

In this paper, we propose a new composite iterative method for finding a common point of the set of solutions of an equilibrium problem and the set of fixed points of a countable family of nonexpansive mappings in a Hilbert space. It is proved that the sequence generated by the iterative scheme converges strongly to a common point of the set of solutions of an equilibrium problem and the set of fixed points of a countable family of nonexpansive mappings. Our results improve and extend the corresponding ones announced by many others.     

Common fixed points for four maps in cone metric spaces

The existence of coincidence points and common fixed points for four mappings satisfying generalized contractive conditions without exploiting the notion of continuity of any map involved therein, in a cone metric space is proved. These results extend, unify and generalize several well known comparable results in the existing literature.
