Canonical Connections and Algebraic Ricci Solitons of Three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie Groups

In this paper, the author computes canonical connections and KobayashiNomizu connections and their curvature on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with some product structure. He defines algebraic Ricci solitons associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections. He classifies algebraic Ricci solitons associated to canonical connections and Kobayashi-Nomizu connections on three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups with some product structure.     

Left invariant special Kähler structures

We construct left invariant special Kähler structures on the cotangent bundle of a flat pseudo-Riemannian Lie group. We introduce the twisted cartesian product of two special Kähler Lie algebras according to two linear representations by infinitesimal Kähler transformations. We also exhibit a double extension process of a special Kähler Lie algebra which allows us to get all simply connected special Kähler Lie groups with bi-invariant symplectic connections. All Lie groups constructed by performing this double extension process can be identified with a subgroup of symplectic (or Kähler) affine transformations of its Lie algebra containing a nontrivial 1-parameter subgroup formed by central translations. We show a characterization of left invariant flat special Kähler structures using étale Kähler affine representations, exhibit some immediate consequences of the constructions mentioned above, and give several non-trivial examples.     

?*-extensions of tori, higher chow groups and applications to incidence equivalence relations for algebraic cycles

LetX be a smooth projective variety over an algebraically closed fieldk. We repeat Bloch's construction of aG _m -biextension (torseur)E over CH _hom ^p (X)×CH _hom ^q (X) forp+q=dim(X)+1. First we show that in characteristic zeroE comes via pullback from the Poincaré biextension over the corresponding product of intermediate Jacobians which has been conjectured by Bloch and Murre. Then the relations betweenE and various equivalence relations for algebraic cycles are studied. In particular we reprove Murre's theorem stating that Griffiths' conjecture holds for codimension 2 cycles, i.e. every 2-codimensional cycle which is algebraically and incidence equivalent to zero has torsion Abel-Jacobi invariant.     

Density computations for real quadratic units

In order to study the density of the set of positive integers for which the negative Pell equation is solvable in integers, we compute the norm of the fundamental unit in certain well-chosen families of real quadratic orders. A fast algorithm that computes 2-class groups rather than units is used. It is random polynomial-time in as the factorization of is a natural part of the input for the values of we encounter. The data obtained provide convincing numerical evidence for the density heuristics for the negative Pell equation proposed by the second author. In particular, an irrational proportion of the real quadratic fields without discriminantal prime divisors congruent to 3 mod 4 should have a fundamental unit of norm .

     

Operator Semigroup Compactifications

A weakly continuous, equicontinuous representation of a semitopological semigroup on a locally convex topological vector space gives rise to a family of operator semigroup compactifications of , one for each invariant subspace of . We consider those invariant subspaces which are maximal with respect to the associated compactification possessing a given property of semigroup compactifications and show that under suitable hypotheses this maximality is preserved under the formation of projective limits, strict inductive limits and tensor products.

     

Some nonlinear problems in servomechanisms

Summary A mathematical model for a hydraulic servomechanism is constructed. It is shown that the model, in general, reduces to a nonlinear third-order equation of the formxx+(₁+xx+–₂ x=p(t). Under certain conditions imposed on the constants involved, it is proved that above equation possesses a periodic solution.     

Compact flat manifolds with holonomy group

In this paper we construct a family of compact flat manifolds, for all dimensions , with holonomy group isomorphic to and first Betti number zero.

     

Synthesis of β-tosylethylhydrazine and its use in preparation of N-protected pyrazoles and 5-aminopyrazoles

β-Tosylethylhydrazine (6) can be prepared efficiently in one step from commercially available p-tolyl vinyl sulfone (7) and hydrazine hydrate. This hydrazine reacts with both 1,3-diketones and conjugated ynones in glacial acetic acid to provide a variety of N-tosylethyl-protected (TSE) pyrazoles in good yields. The TSE group can be removed from the pyrazoles using potassium t-butoxide in THF at −30 °C-rt. In addition, hydrazine 6 condenses with β-ketonitriles and β-aminoacrylonitriles to afford 5-aminopyrazoles, which can be deprotected by brief treatment with NaOEt in EtOH/DMSO at 45 °C.     

V. Thioanalogues of sparteine lactams. (+)-2-Thiono-17-oxosparteine and (+)-2,17-dithionosparteine

The X-ray and spectroscopic results clearly indicate that the (+)-2-thiono-17-oxosparteine (1) and (+)-2,17-ditihionosparteine (2) are conformationally rigid. In order to analyze deviations of lactam/thiolactam groups from planarity induced by ring constraints, the Dunitz-Winkler approach has been used. The lactam and thiolactam groups are close to planarity, only the lactam group in one of the two independent molecules of 1 is markedly non-planar. The bond angles in the thiolactam and lactam groups are highly diverse. Rings A and C adopt a distorted sofa conformation in both compounds. The distortions in the molecules of 2 as compared with those in the related monothiolactams correspond to the unusual chemical shifts of H5(eq), H5(ax) and H11, as well as to the extremely low J_5ax-6 and extremely large J_5eq-6 coupling constants. Also chemical shifts show a similar regularity being extremely high and low for C2 and C17, respectively.     

Theory of electron tunneling through a bridge molecule with two electronic levels at low temperatures

A theory of electron tunneling through a single-center bridge redox group that has two electronic levels participating in the electron transfer process is presented. The temperature is presumed to be low enough to ignore activation redox conversions of the bridge group. Salient features of this system are due both to the presence of two electroactive states of the bridge group and to relaxation processes along the reaction coordinate. The processes in question make the tunneling current time-dependent at fixed potentials and can bring about hysteresis in current-voltage curves when cycling the bias potential. Effects of inelastic tunneling with excitation of vibrations of a local quantum degree of freedom are considered.
