Headspace SPME–GC Method for Acetone Analysis and its Biomedical Application

A new method for extraction and analysis of acetone in human urine based on headspace solid phase microextraction using a mixture of activated carbon and zeolite as sorbents in a PVC matrix coated on a silver wire and its application to the determination of ketone bodies is described. Unlike commercial fibers, which are coated on fused silica, the coating adheres strongly to the silver wire and is thermally stable up to 250 °C. After optimization of coating composition and microextraction conditions the fiber was used for the analysis of acetone in human urine.

Epi-Convergence and Lower and Epi-Upper Semicontinuous Approximations in Distribution

The paper introduces an extension of the epi-convergence, the lower semicontinuous approximation and the epi-upper semicontinuous approximation of random real functions in distribution. The new notions could be helpful tools for sensitivity analyzes of stochastic optimization problems. The research is evoked by S. Vogel and continues the research started by Vogel and the author.     

Lattice path combinatorics and asymptotics of multiplicities of weights in tensor powers

We give asymptotic formulas for the multiplicities of weights and irreducible summands in high-tensor powers V_λ^⊗N of an irreducible representation V_λ of a compact connected Lie group G. The weights are allowed to depend on N, and we obtain several regimes of pointwise asymptotics, ranging from a central limit region to a large deviations region. We use a complex steepest descent method that applies to general asymptotic counting problems for lattice paths with steps in a convex polytope.     

The modified characteristic finite difference fractional steps method for the coupled system of fluid dynamics in porous media and its analysis

For the coupled system of multilayer fluid dynamics in porous media, the modified characteristic finite difference fractional steps method applicable to parallel arithmetic is put forward and two‐dimensional and three‐dimensional schemes are used to form a complete set. Some techniques, such as calculus of variations, energy method, piecewise biquadratic interpolation, multiplicative commutation rule of difference operators, decomposition of high order difference operators and prior estimates are adopted. Optimal order estimates in L² norm are derived to determine the error in the approximate solution. This method has already been applied to the numerical simulation of multilayer fluid dynamics in porous media. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Determination of styrene in olive oil by an automatic purge-and-trap system coupled to gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

Summary A new gas chromatographic method using an automatic purge-and-trap system coupled to a GC with mass selective detection to analyze styrene at the parts-per-trillions (ng kg^–1) level is described. The method shows a good sensitivity and the detection limit is 10 ng kg^–1 with a relative standard deviation (RSD) of 4.7% for 164 ng kg^–1 styrene in olive oil. This analytical method has been successfully applied to the analysis of styrene in extra-virgin olive oil from the European market.     

胶束薄层色谱法测定食品及药用胶囊中的合成食用色素

在聚酰胶片上以13%SDBS(十二烷基苯磺酸钠)+7%Triton X-100〔聚乙二醇-对-(1.1,3,3-四甲基)丁基苯基醚〕+(2+3)氨水(1+5+1)为展开剂,用胶束薄层色谱法分离和测定了柠檬黄、亮蓝、苋菜红、胭脂红和赤藓红。测定波长分别为440、632、535、525和528 nm,线性范围分别为0.1～2、0.05～1、0.05～1、0.05～1和0.05～1μg/斑点。方法用于测定软饮料糖果及药用胶囊中的合成色素,获得了满意的结果。此外,还对展开剂的最佳组成进行了单纯形法优化。     

举办《应用数学学校》和参加数学应用数学建模竞赛的实践和思考

通过开展应用数学教学活动和开办《应用数学学校》的多年实践 ,我校学生结合实际学习和应用数学知识的意识和能力不断提高 ,在上海市数学知识应用竞赛和美国大学生数学建模竞赛中连续取得好成绩 ,为了争取把这项工作做得更好 ,我们作了进一步思考和打算     

Effective tortuosity and different acoustic waves in porous media

Summary A simple method has been suggested to estimate the acoustic characteristics of porous structure from a hybrid model—a hybridisation of Biot's phenomenological model and the microscopic multiple-scattering theory which introduces the idea of an effective tortuosity. Without using any adjustable parameter this model may be used to provide rough estimates of the tortuosity, the fast, the shear and the slow sound speeds. The predictions are compared with observation on water-saturated glass bead samples. The author of this paper has agreed to not receive the proofs for correction.
