This paper proposes and analyzes a class of multigrid smoothers called the parallel multiplicative (PM) smoother by subspace decomposition techniques. It shows that the well known additive and multiplicative smoothers and the JSOR smoother are special cases of the PM smoother, and their smoothing properties can be obtained directly from the PM analysis. Moreover, numerical results are presented in this paper to show that the JSOR smoother is more robust and effective than the damped Jacobi smoother on current MIMD parallel computers. Recently, Gill and Chien introduced a new radial quadrature for multiexponential integrands (MultiExp grid) to deal with the radial part of the numerical integration. In this article, the MultiExp grid is studied and used to integrate the charge density. The MultiExp grid, along with an optimal pruning scheme, performed very well both in terms of accuracy and efficiency compared to other radial mappings commonly used in Density Functional Theory.  相似文献

In this paper we first consider a risk process in which claim inter-arrival times and the time untilthe first claim have an Erlang (2) distribution.An explicit solution is derived for the probability of ultimateruin,given an initial reserve of u when the claim size follows a Pareto distribution.Follow Ramsay,Laplacetransforms and exponential integrals are used to derive the solution,which involves a single integral of realvalued functions along the positive real line,and the integrand is not of an oscillating kind.Then we showthat the ultimate ruin probability can be expressed as the sum of expected values of functions of two differentGamma random variables.Finally,the results are extended to the Erlang(n) case.Numerical examples aregiven to illustrate the main results.  相似文献

High-dimensional model representation (HDMR) is a general set of quantitative model assessment and analysis tools for improving the efficiency of deducing high dimensional input-output system behavior. RS-HDMR is a particular form of HDMR based on random sampling (RS) of the input variables. The component functions in an HDMR expansion are optimal choices tailored to the n-variate function f(x) being represented over the desired domain of the n-dimensional vector x. The high-order terms (usually larger than second order, or equivalently beyond cooperativity between pairs of variables) in the expansion are often negligible. When it is necessary to go beyond the first and the second order RS-HDMR, this article introduces a modified low-order term product (lp)-RS-HDMR method to approximately represent the high-order RS-HDMR component functions as products of low-order functions. Using this method the high-order truncated RS-HDMR expansions may be constructed without directly computing the original high-order terms. The mathematical foundations of lp-RS-HDMR are presented along with an illustration of its utility in an atmospheric chemical kinetics model.  相似文献

The concept of weighted discrepancy of sequences was introduced by Sloan and Woniakowski when they proved a general form of a Koksma–Hlawka inequality for the numerical integration of functions. This version takes imbalances in the importance of the projections of the integrand into account.In this paper we give estimates for the weighted discrepancy of several important point sets. Further we carry out various (high-dimensional) numerical integration experiments and we compare the results with the error bounds provided by the generalized Koksma–Hlawka inequality and by the estimates for the weighted discrepancy. Gaussian elimination with partial pivoting achieved by adding the pivot row to the kth row at step k, was introduced by Onaga and Takechi in 1986 as means for reducing communications in parallel implementations. In this paper it is shown that the growth factor of this partial pivoting algorithm is bounded above by n <#60; 3 n–1, as compared to 2 n–1 for the standard partial pivoting. This bound n, close to 3 n–2, is attainable for class of near-singular matrices. Moreover, for the same matrices the growth factor is small under partial pivoting.This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.  相似文献
