Nonexistence of local minima of supersolutions for the polyharmonic problems

In this note we study the nonexistence of local minima of the supersolutions of the polyharmonic equations on the balls under generalized homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. Under suitable restriction on the dimensions, this means that a generalized clamped circular plate, which is pushed from below, cannot bend downwards even locally. (© 2008 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. On the Number of Facets of Three-Dimensional Dirichlet Stereohedra III: Full Cubic Groups

We are interested in the maximum possible number of facets that Dirichlet stereohedra for three-dimensional crystallographic groups can have. In two previous papers, D. Bochiş and the second author studied the problem for noncubic groups. This paper deals with “full” cubic groups, while “quarter” cubic groups are left for a subsequent paper. Here, “full” and “quarter” refers to the recent classification of three-dimensional crystallographic groups by Conway, Delgado-Friedrichs, Huson and Thurston. This paper’s main result is that Dirichlet stereohedra for any of the 27 full groups cannot have more than 25 facets. We also find stereohedra with 17 facets for one of these groups. Geometric Approach to Response Theory in Non-Hamiltonian Systems

The theory of differential forms and time-dependent vector fields on manifolds is applied to formulate response theory for non-Hamiltonian systems. This approach is manifestly coordinate-free, and provides a transparent derivation of the response of a thermostatted system to a time-dependent perturbation.     

A cohomological characterization of Leibniz central extensions of Lie algebras

Mainly motivated by Pirashvili's spectral sequences on a Leibniz algebra, a cohomological characterization of Leibniz central extensions of Lie algebras is given. In particular, as applications, we obtain the cohomological version of Gao's main theorem for Kac-Moody algebras and answer a question in an earlier paper by Liu and Hu (2004).

     

On the index of finite determinacy of vector fields with resonances

In this paper we study normal forms for a class of germs of 1-resonant vector fields on R^n with mutually different eigenvalues which may admit extraneous resonance relations. We give an estimation on the index of finite determinacy from above as well as the essentially simplified polynomial normal forms for such vector fields. In the case that a vector field has a zero eigenvalue, the result leads to an interesting corollary, a linear dependence of the derivatives of the hyperbolic variables on the central variable.     

A certain Dirichlet series of Rankin-Selberg type associated with the Ikeda lifting

We consider a certain Dirichlet series of Rankin-Selberg type associated with two Siegel cusp forms of the same integral weight with respect to Spn(Z). In particular, we give an explicit formula for the Dirichlet series associated with the Ikeda lifting of cuspidal Hecke eigenforms with respect to SL₂(Z). We also comment on a contribution to the Ikeda's conjecture on the period of the lifting.

Carleman estimates and unique continuation property for the anisotropic differential-operator equations

The unique continuation theorems for the anisotropic partial differential-operator equations with variable coeffcients in Banach-valued Lp-spaces are studied.To obtain the uniform maximal regularity and the Carleman type estimates for parameter depended differential-operator equations,the suffcient conditions are founded.By using these facts,the unique continuation properties are established.In the application part,the unique continuation properties and Carleman estimates for finite or infinite systems of quasielliptic partial differential equations are studied.     

Applications of an Explicit Formula for the Generalized Euler Numbers

The authors establish an explicit formula for the generalized Euler NumbersE2n^（x）, and obtain some identities and congruences involving the higher＇order Euler numbers, Stirling numbers, the central factorial numbers and the values of the Riemann zeta-function.
