Multiple solutions of semilinear degenerate elliptic boundary value problems

The purpose of this paper is to study a class of semilinear elliptic boundary value problems with degenerate boundary conditions which include as particular cases the Dirichlet problem and the Robin problem. The approach here is based on the super‐sub‐solution method in the degenerate case, and is distinguished by the extensive use of an L^p Schauder theory elaborated for second‐order, elliptic differential operators with discontinuous zero‐th order term. By using Schauder's fixed point theorem, we prove that the existence of an ordered pair of sub‐ and supersolutions of our problem implies the existence of a solution of the problem. The results extend an earlier theorem due to Kazdan and Warner to the degenerate case. © 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim

Nonplanar Electrostatic Solitary Waves in a Relativistic Degenerate Dense Plasma

By employing the reductive perturbation technique, the propagation of cylindrical and spherical ion acoustic solitary waves is studied in an unmagnetized dense relativistic plasma, consisting of relativistically degenerate electrons and cold fluid ions. A modified Korteweg-de-Vries equation is derived and its numerical solutions have been analyzed to identify the basic features of electrostatic solitary structures that may form in such a degenerate Fermi plasma. Different degrees of relativistic electron degeneracy are discussed and compared. It is found that increasing number density leads to decrease the amplitude the width of the ion acoustic solitary wave in both the cylindrical and spherical geometries. The relevance of the work to the compact astrophysical objects, particularly white dwarfs is pointed out.     

QUENCHING PROBLEMS OF DEGENERATE FUNCTIONAL REACTION-DIFFUSION EQUATION

This paper is concerned with the quenching problem of a degenerate functional reaction-diffusion equation. The quenching problem and global existence of solution for the reaction-diffusion equation are derived and, some results of the positive steady state solutions for functional elliptic boundary value are also presented.

非线性动力系统的规范形和余维3退化分叉

本文里我们利用矩阵表示法计算了具有Z_(2~-)对称性时非线性动力系统的高阶规范形,求出了余维2退化和余维3退化情况下相应规范形的普适开折。最后利用所得到的规范形和普适开折讨论了非线性动力系统的余维3退化分叉。     

Viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear parabolic systems

In this paper, we discuss the viscosity solutions of the weakly coupled systems of fully nonlinear second-order degenerate parabolic equations and their Cauchy-Dirichlet problem. We prove the existence, uniqueness and continuity of viscosity solution by combining Perron's method with the technique of coupled solutions. The results here generalize those in Proc. London Math. Soc. 63 (1991) 212-240 and Comm. Partial Differential Equations 16 (1991) 1095-1128.     

Comparison theorems for diffusion processes

We prove comparison theorems for diffusion processes onR ^d. From these theorems we derive lower and upper bounds for the transition probabilities of a diffusion process. In contrast to the known estimates for fundamental solutions of parabolic equations our bounds do not depend on the moduli of continuity of the coefficients of the differential operator.     

Continuous dependence estimates for viscosity solutions of integro-PDEs

We present a general framework for deriving continuous dependence estimates for, possibly polynomially growing, viscosity solutions of fully nonlinear degenerate parabolic integro-PDEs. We use this framework to provide explicit estimates for the continuous dependence on the coefficients and the “Lévy measure” in the Bellman/Isaacs integro-PDEs arising in stochastic control/differential games. Moreover, these explicit estimates are used to prove regularity results and rates of convergence for some singular perturbation problems. Finally, we illustrate our results on some integro-PDEs arising when attempting to price European/American options in an incomplete stock market driven by a geometric Lévy process. Many of the results obtained herein are new even in the convex case where stochastic control theory provides an alternative to our pure PDE methods.
