We investigated the smectic-A-hexatic-B (SmA-HexB) transition in the liquid-crystal n-hexyl-4-n-pentyloxybiphenyl-4-carboxilate (65OBC) with adiabatic scanning calorimetry. We were able to prove in a direct way that this transition is indeed very weakly first order, as was already suggested in the literature. The latent heat at the transition was determined to be HL = 0.04±0.02 J/g. Our experiments confirm the high value for the heat capacity critical exponent earlier reported, yielding = 0.64±0.05. 相似文献

Mutual mass diffusion and thermal diffusion has been investigated in poly(dimethylsiloxane)/ poly(ethylmethylsiloxane) (PDMS/PEMS) polymer blends of equal weight fractions. Molar masses ranged from below 1 to over 20 kg/mol. Both the mutual mass (D) and the thermal diffusion (DT) coefficient contain a thermally activated factor with an activation temperature of 1415 K. The molar mass dependence of DT is due to an end-group effect of the local friction coefficient. The thermal diffusion coefficient in the limit of long chains and infinite temperature is DT0, = - 1.69×10-7cm2(sK)-1. The Soret coefficient ST of blends far enough away from a critical point is proportional to the static structure factor S(q = 0). 相似文献

Both theoretical and experimental works give evidence that
gallium exhibits solid phases labelled , , , besides the
stable phase strongly dependent both on the size and the
confinement conditions. An experimental technique was used based
on capacitance and conductance measurements
vs. temperature in the
audiofrequency range. This technique is particularly sensitive
to the conditions of the investigated particle surface that
plays a fundamental role in the melting and more generally in
the phase transition processes. In particular the strict
relation between the derivative of the capacitance with respect
to the temperature, dC/dT, and the entropy of the system is
considered. In gallium nanoparticles 20 nm in radius, only the
phase is shown to occur. Further the transition to liquid phase
was detected. The melting process was found to start about 65 K
below the full melting temperature value. In the case of
particles 10 nm in radius, where different metastable phases may
occur, the capacitance vs.
temperature curve was found to display abrupt changes of the
slope. The singularities are associated to a well defined

We consider the realization of a quantum computer in a chain of nuclear spins coupled by an Ising interaction. Quantum algorithms
can be performed with the help of appropriate radio-frequency pulses. In addition to the standard nearest-neighbor Ising coupling,
we also allow for a second neighbor coupling. It is shown, how to apply the 2π
k method in this more general setting, where the additional coupling eventually allows to save a few pulses. We illustrate
our results with two numerical simulations: the Shor prime factorization of the number 4 and the teleportation of a qubit
along a chain of 3 qubits. In both cases, the optimal Rabi frequency (to suppress non-resonant effects) depends primarily

Novel deep‐red emissive poly(2,6‐BODIPY‐ethynylene)s bearing dodecyl side chains (polymers A , B , and C ) have been prepared by palladium‐catalyzed Sonogashira polymerization of 2,6‐diiodo‐functionalized BODIPY monomers with 2,6‐diethynyl‐functionalized BODIPY monomers. These polymers emit in the deep‐red region with emission maxima at up to 690 nm, and exhibit significant red shifts (up to 166 and 179 nm) of both absorption and emission maxima compared with their parent BODIPY dyes due to significant extension of π‐conjugation. These polymers possess good thermal stability with decomposition temperature between 270 and 360 °C. The polymers exhibit a little larger Stokes shifts and shorter lifetime than their corresponding BODIPY dyes. The solid state thin films of polymers A , B , and C emit in near‐infrared region between 723 and 743 nm, and show significantly red shifts (up to 57 nm) in absorption and emission maxima relative to their polymer solution. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
