Correction for the Concentration Polarization for Simultaneous Reduction of Several Reactants: Platinum(II) Aquachloride Complexes

The reaction of electroreduction of platinum(II) aquachloride complexes on a negatively charged dropping mercury electrode is used to determine specific features of interpretation of experimental data in the case of parallel conversion of several forms of a reactant, connected with the manner of introducing a correction for the concentration polarization. The difference in the charges of species undergoing simultaneous reduction gives rise to ambiguity when analyzing kinetic data on the dependence of current on the supporting-electrolyte concentration at constant electrode charge. A new self-consistent technique for deducing model parameters (ratio between reactant discharge rate constants) is proposed.     

Superoxes,high temperature universal phases in (GC)2

Most of the common classes of organic compounds chromatograph normally on Superoxes. There is no tailing or adverse effect from excessively different activity different activity coefficients. Superoxes are therefore universal phases for gas chromatography. This is also expressed by a wide useful temperature range from ～50° to ～300°. High MW Superox-4 has a MAOT about 20° higher than the lower MW Superox-0.1. Several applications illustrating the versatility of Superox phases in (GC)² are presented.

Retrieval and chaos in extremely dilutedQ-Ising neural networks

Using a probabilistic approach, the deterministic and the stochastic parallel dynamics of aQ-Ising neural network are studied at finiteQ and in the limitQ. Exact evolution equations are presented for the first time-step. These formulas constitute recursion relations for the parallel dynamics of the extremely diluted asymmetric versions of these networks. An explicit analysis of the retrieval properties is carried out in terms of the gain parameter, the loading capacity, and the temperature. The results for theQ network are compared with those for theQ=3 andQ=4 models. Possible chaotic microscopic behavior is studied using the time evolution of the distance between two network configurations. For arbitrary finiteQ the retrieval regime is always chaotic. In the limitQ the network exhibits a dynamical transition toward chaos.     

Migration of seismic data

Prospecting for oil and gas resources poses the problem of determining the geological structure of the earth's crust from indirect measurements. Seismic migration is an acoustic image reconstruction technique based on the inversion of the scalar wave equation. Extensive computation is necessary before reliable information can be extracted from large sets of recorded data. In this paper a collection of industrial migration techniques, each giving rise to a data parallel algorithm, is outlined. Computer simulations on synthetic seismic data illustrate the problem and the approach.

Givenn pairwise distinct and arbitrarily spaced pointsP _i in a domainD of thex–y plane andn real numbersf _i, consider the problem of computing a bivariate functionf(x, y) of classC ¹ inD whose values inP _i are exactlyf _i,i=1,,n, and whose first or second order partial derivatives satisfy appropriate equality and inequality constraints on a given set ofp pointsQ _l inD.In this paper we present a method for solving the above problem, which is designed for extremely large data sets. A step of this method requires the solution of a large scale quadratic programming (QP) problem.The main purpose of this work is to analyse an iterative method for determining the solution of this QP problem: such a method is very efficient and well suited for parallel implementation on a multiprocessor system.Work supported by MURST Project of Computational Mathematics, Italy.     

Salt effects in the mercuration of unsaturated compounds. Kinetic evidence for the formation of ion pairs and a solvated ion

The kinetics of mercuration of bornylene and cyclohexene in different solvents in the presence of NaOAc and LiClO₄ has been investigated. Addition of NaOAc sharply decreases the rate of addition reactions of mercuric acetate to bornylene and cyclohexene in alcohols; the main direction of the mercuration of bornylene is the formation of acetoxy-adducts, and the yield of solvo-adducts decreases from 76 % in the absence of NaOAc, to 19 % in the presence of the salt (4·10^–3 mol L^–1). A reaction scheme involving the participation of intermediate ion pairs and a solvated mercurinium ion is suggested and confirmed by a steady-state concentration method. The influence of NaOAc on the rate of the reaction and on product formation is realized through the common ion effect.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. THE ESTABLISHMENT OF TWO SETS OF ALIEN ADDITION LINES OF WHEATWHEATGRASS

The procedure and method for the transfer of two sets of 14 pairs of wheatgrass (Agropyron interrnedium) chromosomes into common wheat to establish two sets of wheat-wheatgrass alien addition lines are reported. Meanwhile, observations and analyses have been made on the phenotypicaI characters of all the 14 alien addition lines established. It is determined that wheatgrass chromosomes in some of the established addition lines carry the rustresistant genes. In addition, questions concerning the location and distribution of certain agriculturally important genes of wheatgrass chromosomes have been discussed.

综述了近8年来液相平行合成和组合合成中应用的不同技术, 包括可溶性载体、氟合成技术、离子液体、固相试剂树脂以及低聚乙烯二醇(OEG)衍生物的应用等几方面内容. 论述了它们的基本原理以及相关的应用实例, 并着重强调了目标化合物的分离纯化方法.     

Estimations of subgraph positions in molecular graphs and their common subgraph peculiarities

Some questions emerged from electronic data processing of molecular structures (graphs) and its fragments have been considered in this work. Quantitative estimations of subgraph positions in molecular graphs are presented and some properties of their maximal common subgraphs are described.
