Surface forces in foam films from ABA block copolymer: a dynamic method study

The thinning of foam films from aqueous solutions of an ABA triblock copolymer of polyethylene oxide and polypropylene oxide (average molecular weight 14,000 g/mol) is studied experimentally. The dependence of the surface forces on film thickness is obtained by the dynamic method of Scheludko and Exerowa.The total surface force measured in foam films (radius 60–70 m) from 10^–5 M (0.014 wt%) polymer solution with 0.1 M NaCl is positive at thicknesses from about 800 down to 460 . The electrostatic repulsion is negligible while the contribution of van der Waals attraction is small (within 15%). Therefore a positive surface force component predominates. Most probably it arises from steric interactions between the hydrophilic polyethylene oxide tails of the polymer. The dynamic method appears to be a suitable technique for exploring the stabilization of foam films from ABA copolymers.     

Averaged molecular weight of complex mixtures as determined by rapid measurements of diffusion

Summary The concept of a diffusion-averaged molecular weight, M_d is presented, and M_d is defined for polydisperse samples. It is shown via oligostyrene mixtures that M_d can be determined in 20 minutes with common chromatographic equipment. If M_d is measured and M_n or M_w is known, the polydispersity can be obtained.     

介质对配合物稳定性的影响——Ⅱ.Cu(SCN)+—NaNO3—二氧六环—水体系

本文用分光光度法确定了25℃时配阳离子Cu(SCN)~+在NaNO_3—二氧六环—H_2O介质中的稳定常数。溶剂组成变化范围为0,5,10,15和20wt％二氧六环,离子强度范围为0.2～3.0moledm~(-3),溶液的pH=1.5～1.6。本文提出了基于Pitzer方程式的最小二乘多项式逼近法,确定出各种不同组成混合溶剂中配合物的热力学稳定常数。讨论了该常数和一级介质效应与溶剂组成和介电常数的关系。     

Non-aqueous redox determination of ascorbic acid with copper (II)

Hydrated copper (II) perchlorate (in acetonitrile) has been used for the direct visual and potentiometric determination of ascorbic acid in acetic acid-acetonitrile media. Diphenylamine and diphenylbenzidine are suitable indicators. A bright platinum wire is used as indicator electrode and a modified calomel or an antimony electrode as reference electrode for the potentiometric titration. Ascorbic acid is oxidized to dehydroascorbic acid. The proposed method is simple, accurate and reliable. The reverse titration also works well.     

On the invariant measures for the two-dimensional euler flow

The spherical-model limit in a random field

The spherical-model limitn of then-vector model in a random field, with either a statistically independent distribution or with long-range correlated random fields, is studied to demonstrate the correctness of the replica method in which then and replica limits limits are interchanged, provided the replica and thermodynamic limits are taken in the right order, in the case of long-range correlated random fields. A scaling form for the two-point correlation function relevant to the first-order phase transition below the lower critical dimensionality of the random system is also obtained.
