It has been noticed by many authors that the Schur indices of the irreducible characters of many quasi-simple finite groups are at most . A conjecture has emerged that the Schur indices of all irreducible characters of all quasi-simple finite groups are at most . We prove that this conjecture cannot be extended to the set of all finite perfect groups. Indeed, we prove that, given any positive integer , there exist irreducible characters of finite perfect groups of chief length which have Schur index .
A characterization of the quasi-split property for an inclusion of -algebras in terms of the metrically nuclear maps is established. This result extends the known characterization relative to inclusions of -factors. An application to type von Neumann algebras is also presented.
In this paper, the similarity-invariant subspaces of B(H), which is the Banach algebra of all bounded linear operators on a separable infinite-dimensional Hilbert space H, are completely characterized and the representations of bounded linear maps on B(H) which preserve similarity in both directions are given.

Perfect fluid Friedmann-Robertson-Walker quantum cosmological models for an arbitrary barotropic equation of state p = are constructed using Schutz's variational formalism. In this approach the notion of time can be recovered. By superposition of stationary states, finite-norm wave-packet solutions to the Wheeler-DeWitt equation are found. The behaviour of the scale factor is studied by applying the many-worlds and the ontological interpretations of quantum mechanics. Singularity-free models are obtained for < 1. The study of multi-fractal functions has proved important in several domains of physics. Some physical phenomena such as fully developed turbulence or diffusion limited aggregates seem to exhibit some sort of self-similarity. The validity of the multi-fractal formalism has been proved to be valid for self-similar functions. But, multi-fractals encountered in physics or image processing are not exactly self-similar. For this reason, we extend the validity of the multi-fractal formalism for a class of some non-self-similar functions. Our functions are written as the superposition of similar structures at different scales, reminiscent of some possible modelization of turbulence or cascade models. Their expressions look also like wavelet decompositions. For the computation of their spectrum of singularities, it is unknown how to construct Gibbs measures. However, it suffices to use measures constructed according the Frostman's method. Besides, we compute the box dimension of the graphs. 相似文献
This paper is devoted to the study of the approximation properties of linear operators which are partial Fourier--Legendre sums of order n with 2r terms of the form

Due to this addition, the linear operators interpolate functions and their derivatives at the endpoints of the closed interval [-1,1], which, in fact, for r= = 1 allows us to significantly improve the approximation properties of partial Fourier--Legendre sums. It is proved that these operators realize order-best uniform algebraic approximation of the classes of functions
and Aq(B). With the aim of the computational realization of these operators, we construct their discrete analogs by means of Chebyshev polynomials, orthogonal on a uniform grid, also possessing nice approximation properties. 相似文献
