Remarks on Two Approaches to the Horizontal Cohomology: Compatibility Complex and the Koszul–Tate Resolution

The Koszul–Tate resolution is described in the context of the geometry of jet spaces and differential equations. The application due to Barnich, Brandt, and Henneaux of this resolution to computing the horizontal cohomology is analyzed. Relations with the Vinogradov spectral sequence are discussed.

Vector complementarity problems with a variable ordering relation

In this paper, we investigate vector complementarity problems with a variable ordering relation. We establish existence results of a solution of a vector complementarity problem under an inclusive type condition. We obtain equivalence results among a vector complementarity problem, a vector variational inequality problem and other related problems.     

Generalization of Ulam stability problem for Euler-Lagrange quadratic mappings

In 1968 S.M. Ulam proposed the problem: “When is it true that by changing a little the hypotheses of a theorem one can still assert that the thesis of the theorem remains true or approximately true?” In 1978 P.M. Gruber proposed the Ulam type problem: “Suppose a mathematical object satisfies a certain property approximately. Is it then possible to approximate this object by objects, satisfying the property exactly?” In this paper we solve the generalized Ulam stability problem for non-linear Euler-Lagrange quadratic mappings satisfying approximately a mean equation and an Euler-Lagrange type functional equations in quasi-Banach spaces and p-Banach spaces.     

Witten Solution for the Gelfand–Dikii Hierarchy

We derive formulas making it possible to calculate the Taylor expansion coefficients of the string solution for the Gelfand–Dikii hierarchy. According to the Witten conjecture, these coefficients coincide with the Mumford–Morita–Miller intersection numbers (correlators) of stable cohomology classes for the moduli space of n-spin bundles on Riemann surfaces with punctures.

Tests of fit for the Rayleigh distribution based on the empirical Laplace transform

In this paper a class of goodness-of-fit tests for the Rayleigh distribution is proposed. The tests are based on a weighted integral involving the empirical Laplace transform. The consistency of the tests as well as their asymptotic distribution under the null hypothesis are investigated. As the decay of the weight function tends to infinity the test statistics approach limit values. In a particular case the resulting limit statistic is related to the first nonzero component of Neyman’s smooth test for this distribution. The new tests are compared with other omnibus tests for the Rayleigh distribution.     

Common fixed point theorems of Gregus type for weakly compatible mappings satisfying contractive conditions of integral type

We prove a common fixed point theorem of Gregus type for four mappings satisfying a contractive condition of integral type in metric spaces using the concept of weak compatibility which generalizes Theorem 2 of [A. Djoudi, L. Nisse, Gregus type fixed points for weakly compatible mappings, Bull. Belg. Math. Soc. 10 (2003) 369-378] and other papers. We prove also common fixed point theorems of Gregus type using a strict contractive condition of integral type, a property (E.A) and a common property (E.A) introduced by [M. Aamri, D. El Moutawakil, Some new common fixed point theorems under strict contractive conditions, J. Math. Anal. Appl. 270 (2002) 181-188] and [W. Liu, J. Wu, Z. Li, Common fixed points of single-valued and multi-valued maps, Int. J. Math. Math. Sci. 19 (2005) 3045-3055], respectively.     

Theory of submanifolds,associativity equations in 2D topological quantum field theories,and Frobenius manifolds

We prove that the associativity equations of two-dimensional topological quantum field theories are very natural reductions of the fundamental nonlinear equations of the theory of submanifolds in pseudo-Euclidean spaces and give a natural class of flat torsionless potential submanifolds. We show that all flat torsionless potential submanifolds in pseudo-Euclidean spaces bear natural structures of Frobenius algebras on their tangent spaces. These Frobenius structures are generated by the corresponding flat first fundamental form and the set of the second fundamental forms of the submanifolds (in fact, the structural constants are given by the set of the Weingarten operators of the submanifolds). We prove that each N-dimensional Frobenius manifold can be locally represented as a flat torsionless potential submanifold in a 2N-dimensional pseudo-Euclidean space. By our construction, this submanifold is uniquely determined up to motions. Moreover, we consider a nonlinear system that is a natural generalization of the associativity equations, namely, the system describing all flat torsionless submanifolds in pseudo-Euclidean spaces, and prove that this system is integrable by the inverse scattering method. On a class of difference sequences related to the ℓ<Superscript>p</Superscript> space defined by Orlicz functions

In this article we introduce the difference sequence space m(M, Δ, φ) using the Orlicz function. We study its different properties like solidity, completeness etc. Also we obtain some inclusion relations involving the space m(M, Δ, φ).
