Experimental studies on the microstructure and hardness of laser-treated steel specimens

An experimental investigation with 5 kW CW CO₂ laser system was carried out to study the effects of different laser and process parameters on the microstructure and hardness of carbon steel specimen with varying carbon percentage. The laser beam is allowed to scan on the surface of the work piece varying the power (1.1–2.5 kW) and traverse speed (6–15 mm/s) at two different spot sizes using TEM_01* mode laser beam. The most hardenable microstructure achieved in case of three grades of carbon steel and the most influencing parameter on the value of hardness are reported. Besides the above study, some multipass operations are also carried out to recommend an appropriate gap between consecutive passes.     

George Dantzig in the development of economic analysis

The role of optimization is central to economic analysis, particularly in its “neoclassical” phase, since about 1870, and is therefore highly compatible with the impulse behind linear programming (LP), as developed by Dantzig. LP’s stress on alternative activities fits very well with modern economic analysis. The concept of economic equilibrium, properly understood, required the central notion of complementary slackness. so central in LP.

LP was seen as a tool for actual implementation of neoclassical principles precisely at a time when the market was under attack from several directions. The economists Koopmans and Hurwicz played an important role both in stimulating the crucial development of the simplex method and in relating LP to the world of economics.

LP became widely used in national economic planning, particularly for developing countries, and for the study of individual industries, especially the energy sector. The works of Chenery and of Manne are central in these fields.

As respect for the usefulness of the market increased, the emphasis on national planning diminished and was replaced by an emphasis on equilibrium analysis, in which LP still plays a large part in the study of individual sectors, particularly energy.     

Opinion dynamics in networked command and control organizations

An opinion dynamics model for a Command and Control (C2) organization is essential for simulating combat system effectiveness. However, few studies have addressed opinion evolution in C2 simulation. With the goal of overcoming this research gap, this paper proposes an opinion exchange model, which is illustrated through a practical example of an Armored Division network. The model is divided into homogeneous and heterogeneous aspects: the former is mainly characterized by communication rules and types, while the latter is extended with the influence of multi-level opinion leaders. After carrying out the simulation of the two main models, the results show that the opinion evolution of the hierarchical leveled C2 organization with descending influence is much more complex and unpredictable than that of social networks.     

A survey of berth allocation and quay crane scheduling problems in container terminals

Due to the variety of technical equipments and terminal layouts, research has produced a multitude of optimization models for seaside operations planning in container terminals. To provide a support in modeling problem characteristics and in suggesting applicable algorithms this paper reviews the relevant literature. For this purpose new classification schemes for berth allocation problems and quay crane scheduling problems are developed. Particular focus is put on integrated solution approaches which receive increasing importance for the terminal management.     

Games,Kernels, and Antitone Operations

In this note we want to point out the usefulness of antitone operations in the study of games on graphs. We demonstrate this by proving, among others, the generalizations from games to antitone operations of theorems stated by Fraenkel. This perspective makes also clear the general nature of some problems by separating what is general and what is particular.     

飞行员数量的宏观估计与调控模型

本文提出一种估计与调控飞行员宏观数量的方法.文章给出了当航空兵的兵力规模保持稳定、只考虑飞行员年龄分布的情况下,战斗部队飞行员和航校教员总数量与每年的补充量、淘汰率、服役年限之间的函数关系;给出了当航空兵的兵力规模需要变更时,尽快达到变更目标的数学规划模型,模型考虑了每年的补充量、淘汰率、服役年限以及航校学制、规模和效率之间的关系.     

舰艇对抗微分对策建模研究

编队舰艇对抗攻击瞬时运动状态过程的完整描述是一个尚未很好解决的技术难点，本就驱逐舰对多艘导弹快挺对抗攻击建模问题进行了研究，建立了攻击时间尽可能短的定量微分对策模型，并给出了具体实现方法，中模型和方法可为实时舰艇作战指挥系统的研制、开发提供技术支持及理论依据。     

一种机械结构结合面动力学参数识别方法

机械结构结合面刚度和阻尼的确定是对结构进行动态分析和优化设计的关键问题之一。本文提出一种结合面动力学参数识别方法。该方法通过实测结构少量几个点上的振型和传递函数确定结合面参数。它不要求预先建立结构各部件的解析模型,也不需要实测整个结构完整的动态信息,因此适用于复杂结构结合面动力学参数的识别。文章阐明了结合面参数的识别原理,并讨论了如何消除实验误差对识别结果的影响。用本文方法识别了一台钻床的结合面参数,得到了令人满意的结果。
