The torsion of homogeneous, isotropic, linearly elastic cylindricalbars has been the subject of numerous investigations from theoretical,computational and applied viewpoints. It is well known thatin this case, the circular shaft is the only one whose cross-sectiondoes not involve a warping displacement in the axial direction.For an inhomogeneous, isotropic, circular bar, there is alsono warping of the cross-section provided that the shear modulusvaries only in the radial direction. For general anisotropicmaterials, torsion induces bending and vice versa. For thoseanisotropic materials with at least one plane of elastic symmetrynormal to the axial direction, pure torsion is possible. Forhomogeneous materials of this type and special inhomogeneousmaterials, it has been shown by various arguments that no warpingoccurs for bars of particular elliptical cross-section. Here,we provide a unified derivation of the foregoing results. Somediscussion of torsional rigidities is also given.  相似文献

The quantum dynamics of a charged particle in a harmonic trap in the presence of discontinuous reversals of a homogeneous or an inhomogeneous electric field is studied. The dynamics reveals classically expected patterns in harmonic wells. In a symmetric double‐well potential, the discontinuously switched low intensity homogeneous electric field does not appear to assist tunneling, whereas an inhomogeneous electric field is found to assist the process. Resonance like enhancement is noticed at a critical reversal frequency. Dynamics in a triple well is also analyzed under similar conditions. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The interior transmission eigenvalue problem for scalar acoustics is studied for a new class of refractive index. Existence of an infinite discrete set of transmission eigenvalues in the case that the acoustic properties of a domain D???? n are allowed to have a C 2-transition to the homogeneous background medium is established. It is shown that the transmission problem has a weak formulation on certain weighted Sobolev spaces for this class of refractive index. The weak formulation and the discreteness of the spectrum is justified by using the Hardy inequality to prove compact imbedding theorems. Existence of transmission eigenvalues is demonstrated by investigating a generalized eigenvalue problem associated with the weak formulation.  相似文献

Based on heteronuclear intermolecular single-quantum coherences between proton (1H) and quadrupolar nuclei (i.e. deuterium 2H), a three-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) pulse sequence is proposed for recovering high-resolution two-dimensional J-resolved NMR spectra from samples mixed with a deuterated solvent in the presence of large magnetic field inhomogeneities. Benefitting from excitation of spins via two different radio frequency (RF) transmit channels, this sequence is suitable for applications in randomly large inhomogeneous fields and the solvent suppression generally required in homonuclear intermolecular multiple-quantum coherence approaches is no longer necessary. Systematic theoretical analyses are given based on the distant dipolar field treatment. Experiment on a sample of corn oil in deuterated acetone and ethyl 3-bromopropionate and acetone dissolved in DMSO-d6 in a deshimmed field with severe inhomogeneous broadening is performed to show the feasibility and applicability of this sequence.  相似文献

In this article we follow the study of the hierarchical product of graphs, an operation recently introduced in the context of networks. A well-known example of such a product is the binomial tree which is the (hierarchical) power of the complete graph on two vertices. An appealing property of this structure is that all the eigenvalues are distinct. Here we show how to obtain a graph with this property by applying the hierarchical product. In particular, we propose a generalization of the binomial tree and study some of its main properties.  相似文献

The gradient blowup of the equation ut = Δu + a(x)|∇u|p + h(x), where p > 2, is studied. It is shown that the gradient blowup rate will never match that of the self-similar variables. The exact blowup rate for radial solutions is established under the assumptions on the initial data so that the solution is monotonically increasing in time.  相似文献

Abstract

As our reliance on computer networks grows, it becomes increasingly important that we understand the behavior of the traffic that they carry. Because of the speeds and sizes involved, working with traffic collected from a computer network usually means working with large datasets. This article describes our experience with traffic collected from the common channel signaling (CCS) network. I will briefly describe the data and how they are collected and discuss similarities with and differences from other large datasets. Next, I will describe our analysis tools and outline the reasons that they have been found useful. Finally, I will discuss the challenges facing us as we strive for a better understanding of more data from faster networks. Although my emphasis in this article is on the CCS network, it has been my experience that both the problems and the solutions generalize to data from other networks.  相似文献

We study the two-dimensional eikonal equation ψ x 2 + ψ y 2 = 1/v 2(x, y). We carry out the group analysis of the equation, establish a connection between the group properties and geometric characteristics of the Riemannian space with the metric ds 2 = [dx 2 + dy 2]/v 2(x, y). We select the most important classes of equations and derive some conditions for reducibility of a given equation to an equation of one of those classes. We find a condition for two equations to be equivalent (the theorem of seven invariants). For the equations corresponding to Riemannian spaces of constant curvature, we obtain explicit formulas for the solutions describing the wave front for a point source and also the ray equations.  相似文献
