We give a topological interpretation of the highest weight representations of Kac-Moody groups. Given the unitary form G of a Kac-Moody group (over C), we define a version of equivariant K-theory, KG on the category of proper G-CW complexes. We then study Kac-Moody groups of compact type in detail (see Section 2 for definitions). In particular, we show that the Grothendieck group of integrable highest weight representations of a Kac-Moody group G of compact type, maps isomorphically onto , where EG is the classifying space of proper G-actions. For the affine case, this agrees very well with recent results of Freed-Hopkins-Teleman. We also explicitly compute for Kac-Moody groups of extended compact type, which includes the Kac-Moody group E10. 相似文献

The study described herein represents an initial, exploratory attempt to understand what it means to translate between external representation systems. Researchers have traditionally considered translation as an all-or-none activity. We hypothesize that translation is comprised of both knowledge and skill components, and accordingly construe translation as an activity that our framework allows us to define as partial or complete. We examined the effects of part-whole knowledge in change unknown subtraction situations and the structure of three different external representations on first grade students’ ability to translate in a partitioning task. Based on three interviews conducted with each student, results from our mixed methods analysis showed that translation skill was affected by what students knew about subtraction and the structure of the ER. Further, whereas high knowledge students demonstrated greater difficulty with translating to the ERs, low knowledge students had difficulty translating from the problem statement as well as translating to the ERs. 相似文献

Let K and L be two full-rank lattices in Rd. We give a complete characterization for all the Gabor frames that admit tight dual of the same type. The characterization is given in terms of the center-valued trace of the von Neumann algebra generated by the left regular projective unitary representations associated with the time-frequency lattice K×L. Two applications of this characterization were obtained: (i) We are able to prove that every Gabor frame has a tight dual if and only if the volume of K×L is less than or equal to . (ii) We are able to obtain sufficient or necessary conditions for the existence of tight Gabor pseudo-duals for subspace Gabor frames in various cases. In particular, we prove that every subspace Gabor frame has a tight Gabor pseudo-dual if either the volume or v(K×L)?2. The aim of this work is to find exact solutions of the Dirac equation in(1+1) space-time beyond the already known class.We consider exact spin(and pseudo-spin) symmetric Dirac equations where the scalar potential is equal to plus(and minus) the vector potential.We also include pseudo-scalar potentials in the interaction.The spinor wavefunction is written as a bounded sum in a complete set of square integrable basis,which is chosen such that the matrix representation of the Dirac wave operator is tridiagonal and symmetric.This makes the matrix wave equation a symmetric three-term recursion relation for the expansion coefficients of the wavefunction.We solve the recursion relation exactly in terms of orthogonal polynomials and obtain the state functions and corresponding relativistic energy spectrum and phase shift. 相似文献

In the famous 1910 “cinq variables” paper Cartan showed in particular that for maximally nonholonomic rank 2 distributions in ?5 with non-zero covariant binary biquadratic form the dimension of the pseudo-group of local symmetries does not exceed 7 and among such distributions he described the one-parametric family of distributions for which this pseudo-group is exactly 7-dimensional. Using the novel interpretation of the Cartan covariant binary biquadratic form via the classical Wilczynski invariant of curves in projective spaces associated with abnormal extremals of the distributions [4, 27, 28] one can generalize this Cartan result to rank 2 distributions in ?n satisfying certain genericity assumption, called maximality of class, for arbitrary n ≥ 5.In the present paper for any rank 2 distribution of maximal class with at least one nonvanishing generalized Wilczynski invariants we construct the canonical frame on a (2n — 3)-dimensional bundle and describe explicitly the moduli spaces of the most symmetric models.
